There are statistical clues on index corrections, too. GTAA is a good example. When several combinations are close to the bottom that is a major clue. This is the fault of the AHFS as it doesnt bear out the right numbers for corrections.

Engines can actually be rated by how exactly they perform against a racing standard. That is, we can actually rate them according to how they should have been factored to start. They should all perform the a prescribed NHRA Performance standard. If they out peform the standard they should get enough HP that warrants setting the engine back.

The biggest statistical error that the AHFS makes is all runs need to be corrected or it isnt apples to apples. Second is you dont compare a trigger of 1.15 under to an upper limit average like a second under, nor do you hit them with such a small number that it always stays on top. An engine going 1.6 under what does 15 HP do? That isnt even a tenth. How do you know if it deserves a tenth when he just ran in a mine shaft?

Bad statistics sometimes are better than none at all. If give you a feeling that something is actually being done when not much is happening. It could be a very useful tool if done correctly.

lynn, your quote about bad statistics..yeah it sucks because it seems like something is getting done but without 100% pure stats it is just wasting our time and keeping a good system from being impemented.

unfortunately you and i know you will never get 100% pure stats if we know the triggers

jack mccarthy

why lower indexes -.50 ? why not ? why should 90% of the cars in the country be -.80 or better ??
been since 1980's since they RAISED them, and anyone who cant run the index should take a local auto mechanics class.

Ed, I don't understand why you can't just say what you think.
