We are having an independent Hemi Shootout at the Mopars at the strip event March 20-22 2009. I have not been told the purse as of yet or who is invited or coming. I hope I can do the invites, lol.
But I will be there running the event, this will be my 7th yr of being the racing director for that event.
Anyhow the story I'm hearing Indy might be the only NHRA official one if that one happens.
I think it got kind of stinky there with the shootouts.

Dick, the things that you pointed out are not only on the HEMI cars but alot of the SS field, if you were to look a little closer! As in 68 Corvette's in SS, in regard to scoop height . A lot of these cars have moved the steering boxes out to the frame rails for header clearance etc. These were not just Corvettes, or Hemis, but alot of SS cars! .......John

X-TECH MAN said, "Nobody said these were "WEDGE" blocks being modified and used..."

No, nobody said that, but since there were never EVER any short deck (factory) Hemi blocks made, and you contend that these alleged engines have "APPROX. 1" shorter decks," the only way they could exist is if they started out as wedge (383/400) blocks, unless somebody ran a batch of castings with 383/400 deck measurements and a Hemi top deck. I seriously doubt that that ever happened.

Am I missing something here? Enlighten me........ please.

I don't think it's fair to the people who run Hemis in S/S to have this kind of innuendo floating around without some basis in fact. So, even though you have said that you don't want to say any more about this, I think you owe it to the people involved to at least explain how such a thing would be possible.
Forget the titanium cranks and relocated rocker arms for the moment and focus on the blocks that are being used. If they are, in fact, Hemi blocks, they already HAVE exhaust pushrod clearance, so there would be no reason to move the rocker stands. That makes NO sense to me..

How do you get a "B" engine to have a deck approximately 1" shorter than the oem part? Using a 383/400 block is the only way I can imagine that it would be possible.

Curious minds want to know... and, as an "ex-tech man," myself, so do ~I~.... I'll bet Jared Jordan would like to know, too...

How 'bout it????

Considering that a RB/Hemi bock has a deck height of 10.72", most of the hemi's being run with the new blocks that are currently available, are decking the block .400" to .500". Anything more than that there will not be enough deck left. Pushrod clearance with the deck also becomes a serious issue. $5500.00 cranks, I do not think so! Dyno

To be honest, I thought some of the "innuendo" was pretty funny.

No way a Hemi block gets to 9.980" (383/400 Deck Height)...at least not if you want any deck surface left over. The 383/400 blocks won't hold 900+ HP reliably anyway. No one is running titanium crankshafts. What's the point? The overall weight of the crankshaft might be lighter but the engine still has to be balanced, so there wouldn't be a gain in rotating mass to be had to justify the expense. True you could run a titanium rod, but then you run into the problem of NHRA inspecting the bottom end during teardown. They do have approved rods we can use and none are titanium.

Last rumor I heard regarding Mopar and the Shootouts were that Indy and Vegas (MATS) are a sure thing but there won't be any others. Again....just a rumor.

As far as racing plans go, the plan is to be out more this year than we were a year ago but I couldn't tell you where or when exactly that will be. Not my decision to make.

I know the replacement blocks from MoPar now have decks that are at least .750".

No. I didn't. I know what the exact spec's are though. I've spent a couple hours with a reputable engine builder. :-)

Though I must admit I'm curious as to where you get your information. Can't blame me for that can you? LOL

Thanks, Jared; I knew you'd have some info about this issue...

I appreciate the insight.

Hey Jim,,, Take that Crown Royal,, get a shot glass and pour 1/3 CR,,1/3 Amaretto and 1/3 coffee creamer( I like French Vanilla ,but cinnamon, and caramel vanilla are good also) and take a shot. It goes down real smooth. Out here we call them Dr. Paines (after 2 drag racing brothers Glenn and Don Paine) but maybe they are called something else in another neck of the woods. Anyway its a better party when Dr.Paine is in the house! Heres looking at you.................Danny Durham
