This is true and why these cars will be in AA and A/S classes for quite sometime as the NHRA will not factor them out( in the fore-see'able future)!

we were told BY FORD that they had already picked who was going to receive one and that our customer was not elidgible.

Chad, This statement simply is not true! The dealers were notified and all 50 cars were sold in 3 days. Like any limited production car the Cobra Jet will be a big hit with collectors. If your customer wants a CJ he can still buy one as a few are for sale by the original purchaser. If your customer wants a CJ, have him call me.

I'm just telling you what i was told by someone employed by Ford Racing. I will contact my customer and tell him that he may still be able to get one of these cars. Not sure if he has moved on to other projects or not. Send me a PM with your info

Thanks Chuck,
I thought something like this had come up before. Excellent details. I think you should write a book about the history of Stock and Super Stock.

I called the Ford Performance Parts folks today and was told that Ford would not publish actual Horsepower figures because they did not want nhra to find out how much Horsepower the motor made. They were happy to talk about Horsepower numbers but nothing in writing. They don't mind talking numbers in the 750+ range.

I brought this up about 300 posts ago. ALL they need to drop below 7.5#/hp is 7 horsepower. That’s less than a 1.5% increase. If they go more than 1.15 under which by all the intel they certainly are capable they will be up for review. 1.4 and the Monday morning hit will put them under the 7.5 I have no dog in this fight but from my perspective these cars are really just a short term threat to all the hard work you guys have put into getting you’re A and AA cars into the second under club.
BUT where I could be wrong is if the NHRA decided to hit the index instead of giving them horsepower therefore allowing the cars to stay in stock.

The following is from the AHFS section on the NHRA website;

“Runs of 1.40 or more under the index will be reviewed and adjusted as soon as such runs were made. Runs at divisional events and National Opens are included in the 1.40-second-or-more-under analysis. This is done to better react to any out-of-line indexes or under-horsepowered combinations. Therefore, at all such events, a 3.25 percent horsepower adjustment or index reduction will be initiated immediately. The decision to adjust horsepower or to reduce the index will be at the discretion of the NHRA Tech Department. “
Last year the fastest A car was Dale Howard @ 1.145 under and the fastest AA was Bobby DeArmond at 1.028 under this was in 1800-1900 feet of air. Based on what people have said in this thread about the numbers these Mustangs have run in testing they should be capable of 1.4 under in Pomona.
Maybe they will all sandbag at Pomona and then let it all hang out once they get to an altitude track where they won’t have to worry about the AHFS.
If they do choose to hit the indexes to accommodate these cars it will suck for you guys the class will become the SS/AH of stock.

Bill, Just because they go below the 7.5 weight break it does NOT knock them out of the Class. They can add the weight to make AA. If you look at the 68 Cuda with the Race Hemi with Auto trans. it's factor is 5.96. They add the weight to make the 6.00 weight break for SS/AH. Just wanted to clear that up.
