Roll Bar Rear Bar Question

I am in the middle of installation of a S&W roll bar kit in my 77 Camaro. I want to keep the back seat so I ordered up the extra long bars that run though the package tray instead of the rear seat. They are long enough to run all the way back to the taillight panel.

My question is should I run the bars all the way back to the rear of the trunk which will tie the bars into the rear leaf spring perches, or would it be best to have another bend put in the tubes to drop them closer to the shock mounts?

I'd run them all the way to the back, and if you want to add a little stiffness, drop a kicker off of that bar on each side to about where the shock mounts are. There's probably about a 3-4 pound weight gain there, but on a stock floor pan car, the added stiffness is worth it.

Chad,

I am having the S&W roll bar kit installed in my 1974 Duster right now,
no rear seat, but my two rear bars tie into the top of where the rear part
of my frame connectors are welded which is a few inch's ahead of the
front of my spring mounts.

By the time you weld in the required crossbar, the rear seat will be virtually inaccessible. Might as well save the weight, remove it and make up some "upholstery" and a piece of carpet.
