Ok folks is the sky falling yet? How many of you think he is holding .4 to .5 tenths in the bag to beat Stephen in his dads 64 Fairlane today, btw which is running better than I have ever seen that car run. Stephen, what the heck did you guys do over the winter? Great run Stephen! Good first competitive pass for the Cobra also in S/S!

Smitty,
a SS/E (Stocker) car tested last week. 9.65 @146mph with mid 4.4 gearing. I am amazed that you are still trying to blow smoke or really don't get what is going on here. The sky isn't falling, however the Ford charade is busted.

I talked to George yesterday and he told me the DQ was from contaminated Fuel. I don't think there is any way they could run a fast as Steven Johnson.

At least the Cobra Jet is running on the same weight break for Super Stock. Mark Beaver's A/SA 98 Camaro with an 8lb weight break went to a 12 lb weight break (SS/KA) just by switching to Super Stock. SS/KA has a softer index also. Sounds like the SS horsepower factor for the Camaro is more bogus than the Cobra Jets. I also would like to know Bruce, how you possibly know what gear is in the Mustang? Were you the one who installed it in the car?

There's a very simple formula I use and it has been proven correct time after time. 1320/MPH = optimum ET. Optimum ET should be "no problem" for a S/SS vehicle as it is a "no compromise" vehicle. The ones that are really good exceed the formula.
So...1320/146 = 9.04.

The forumla may work for some combinations, but I think it should be for entertainment purposes only. The formula generates numbers as much as .20 slower than my actual E.T.'s Scary to think how fast it'd go if I knew what I was doing.

Jeff,
Thanks for the info.

The calculators may be off on some combinations but they are usually very close on most.

Dwyndorf,
I know people who are very close to some of these cars. That may surprise you.

A little backup information from Moroso, 146 mph with 30" tires at 7,000 rpm equals 4.3 gears. Pretty darn close to what I have been told. 146 mph with 30" tires at 6,800 rpm equals 4.2 gears - still pretty close.
146 mph at 3,485 pounds (about the average weight) equals 830 horsepower. 3,485 pounds at 146 mph should equal 9.20's et. So it looks like these cars are still running high gears.

BTW the Ford guys told me they were running these gears as well. I can only tell you what they told me. I hope this helps.
