Unhappy Re: For real

You know, you would think if NHRA is in such dire straights financially that they would accept any licensed racer as long as he had the required entry fees in hand? I am 57 years old. I have been racing with the NHRA since I was 16. Somewhere this whole thing has gone terribly wrong. I don't know where or when but someone needs to stop and say "what the hell is going on here!" This is exactly why these new racers "associations" are popping up and doing so well. It's getting to the point where our association, the SSSSA draws more Stock and Super Stockers than an NHRA National Event! This is getting beyond ridiculous. NHRA...... what are you thinking? Jim

I believe the NHRA is moving towards eliminating sportsman cars from national events-but I think they will add more sportsman only "national" events like the three sportsnationals now on the schedule--this may actually be a good thing-no more running early in the morning and late at night at national events, just to sit in the trailer/motorhome all day while the pros run,I think this would be more fun anyways!

Uh....It seems that I posted this very thing about 6 or 7 years ago and most all on this forum said I didnt know what I was talking about ! I gave it about 5 to 7 years when I originally posted it.....its taken 2 or 3 years longer than that so shoot me.....LOL. Hang on because its a coming but its not really a bad thing.!

The Pro Series has no defined legal status. It is owned by the association. It would be very difficult for the association to cut Sportsman racers out of Nationals. Besides in 3 to 5 years the nitro cars will be in museums. They aren't going to get away with belching that stuff much longer. The tree huggers are full throttle. TOMCO is smart enough to see that one coming.

Yes. I ran Bristol last year, and I did not have a grade point before then. I did not collect a grade point until a month or so later at Bowling Green.

" Is it the economy or are racers making a statement? ""

I think that the correct answer there is, BOTH !! A lot of peoples money is screwed down tightly, and the thought processes from out there has got a lot of people asking , what are they thinking ?.

Alan,
Are you saying you never had in your lifetime any grade points or attended any grade point races before entering an NHRA National event???

That was my first NHRA race as a driver in well over a decade. They did not even have me on record.

I had left drag racing completely around 1992 or so. Did not come back until I started working on a friend's car around 2005 or so.
