We've e-mailed on this and @ 124-125 MPH in D/S I saw no measurable difference on my '70 AMX. However, I think the real issue is the type of hood. A '70 AMX hood inlet probably see's very little airflow or ram effect at any speed because it is not high enough or forward enough. There is what is called a boundary layer where air is a dead zone just above the surface of the rest of the hood. If you look up an old Direct Connection "bible" there is much discussion on this. Regular production factory scoops which have their inlet above this area and are effective are the Dodge Challenger T/A and probably better yet the SC/Rambler scoop. I would bet scoops like the W-25 Olds hood are still lacking even though of generous size are in turbulent air because of the front end of the car and still not high enough. I would have a hard time believing any of the factory shaker hoods (mopar / ford) or verry effective. In fact NHRA used to have different HP assignments on the shaker and flat hood 428 Mustangs and resourceful racers would alternate hoods. What I've been told is it didn't make a difference at the time so NHRA assigned one HP to both hoods. I suspect your Rebel Machine scoop falls into the bad scoop category. Of course the only way to know is to try it. If your having trouble finding the tub, tape some yarn ahead of your scoop and see if you can attach a video camera to view the air flow. That might tell you if it's worth pursuing or not.

Hey everybody....there's a new AMC stocker in town and that's Garrett Monde. It's a 1970 Rebel Machine 390 and it runs G/SA - H/SA and has dipped into the 11's already!
This would be the first "Machine" to be seen in Stock since at least the late '70's; if not longer. Everybody welcome Garret aboard as we all know what it's like to take an unusual combo and get it to the track. Garret is waiting for his NHRA debut at a division race coming up so everybody drop by and say hi !
