Default S/S Big vs. Small Slicks

I'm curious if super stockers using large tire-ladder bar/4 link suspensions still have advantages over stock/Cal-Trac suspensions with low horspower lightweight (under 3k lbs.) combos?

John Calvert doesn't appear to need big tires and a 4 link. Last I heard he was still running SS with 9" tires and Caltracs.

Steve Wann doesn't have a problem either.

Some racers (like myself) may go "plenty fast" with a 9" slick w/ Cal-Tracks in SS racing but the problem can be on crappy tracks were that guy is most likely going to be the one with the problem.
Ladder bars seem to be the most forgiving suspension (KISS) you can have.I've never had a 4-links but I see it offer's the most adjustments which can make or break you.
I was going to a ladder bar and instead of following my own logic of KISS decided last week to 4-link the car and back-half it.

If you can launch an A, B, or C stock running low 10's on a 9" tire, you can launch a super stocker with a smaller motor on a 9" tire.

Steve's car made me a believer, 3020 lb. A body with an all iron big block up front, and that car sticks.

Trans brakes make a difference there. I had fewer problems hooking my nine second foot brake 383" on 9" tires than my ten second 355" SS engine (same car) with a trans brake and 10.5" tires. Good tracks are no problem, crap starting lines like this last one at Topeka are a bit of an isssue.
