Definitely none to piss away, and I have always liked being the underdog. Somewhat of a giant killer. So maybe the slower/cheaper car is for me.

We run N/sa Dodge Aspen Wagon and N/sa Dodge Truck with 318 and 360 conbinations. Neither cost much.... 318 Short Block was $200. at swap meet. We believe it is as easy or easier to drive the finish with aconsistant slow car. If you disagree OK but please check Div. 7 Stock points you can win races with bottom class cars. As far as Heads UP check Nitro Joes Stats Wagon - -minus 1.22 truck 1.27 in vegas with head wind. PS we have spare wagon and truck For Sale your choice complete with stock (no Alum.) trans $ , 6,950.

If you have a sense of humor about you then build a slow,lower class stocker.I've only been in stock for 10 of the 32 years I've been racing and I thought I've lost every way possible,but every year I find new ways.
We're not in this to make money,most of us anyway,we're here to feed our ego's and make life long friends in our travels to different tracks.And of course eat well after the racing is over for the day.
I take it very serious when I'm in the car but at the end of the day you just have to let go what happened that day,good or bad and just move on.
I actually enjoy running a lower class car that's not supposed to be a performance car compared to the upper class cars,Camaros,Cudas,Mustangs.It's a challenge.Every now and then I collect a few round wins.
After I lose it's over before I leave the track to go home.
Just build what you like and can afford without breaking the bank.There are enough knowledgeable people on this website to steer you in the right direction.
Probably my main focus is there's race money and there's house money.Never forget that.

Jeff, people like you make it easier for me to cope with the worst year of my adult life (the most boring that is), but now that the main ingredient of this miserable year is behind me (my former apt., and this years economic effect on my racing budget), I'm now gearing myself up for the 2010 racing season! I agree with you 100% about wanting to be a giant killer (I've had my moments in the previous three seasons), and I'm looking forward to getting my Cavalier back out there next year to improve on my 3-way tie for Div 7's 29th place finish (actuall 31st place), with 181 points! Slower cars CAN win once you're familiar with them (just like the faster cars). However, the truth is that it's easier to judge the finish line in a tortoise and hare race if you've got everything in front of you...I believe in my car (and in fwd's/slower stockers), and if Jody Lang, Tibor Kadar, Arthur Leong, Mark Yaccavone, et.al. can win with them, I know I can---there are plenty of races that I've lost that I could've won, and two of them were:

1999 Mile High Nationals 3rd rd, I lost by .009 to Mike Cotten. However I somewhat avenged that loss by defeating Paula Cotten in rd 2 of last years Phoenix Div 7 pts race (back in March).

2007 Lucas Oil Div 7-2 race in Tucson, I redlit by .013 and wasted a dial in matching 15.94 against Wes McCann (in the quarter-finals). However, I raced him later that month in one of Marks Stock/Super Stock combo races and won that race by .003 after getting a slight rt advantage against him, and running nearly dial-in matching run again!!!

My point is if you have faith in your car/combo and you apply yourself to it (with a positive mind-set) you can do it...because I believe in my car, I have and will again achieve---so will you Jeff!!!

It's not how fast you go but whether or not you come back to staging for the next round.

So true. If only fast cars won, only fast cars would be out there.

Thanks for the info and encouragement. I am really excited to do it, just need to fund it. Anyway, I will be at Firebird in two weeks for the Summit finals with my regular race car. Maybe you will be around, and we can discuss some strategies. Hope to see you around.
