For what it's worth, here's a picture of the same car taken a few years later.

I'll see where my stack of old Car Craft Mags are. Sometime back I was talking with someone and they mentioned they thought the car ended up in D1 with a SG/SC racer. Put a mention in the Stock/Super Stock section at the very top of this site and you will be surprised at what response you get. I don't know what it is but when you mention the old Modified days, you get at least three pages of people re-living this era. Worth a shot!

That's the same nasty Opel Dave Hutchens and the Wayne County guys campained after the roadster. I remember them destroying the A/Gas and B/Gas records, switching between 287 and 331 inch small blocks, sometimes with a powerglide and single 4bbl!!! I saw the car at the '80 Gators when they first moved up to A/Gas and begun using the PG to take advantage of the 150 lb advantage. Ironically I heard the Pattersons at one time owned both the WCSS Opel and roadster.

Thr complete article on this car, just after it was built, is in the October 1979 CarCraft. It is a 6 page article, starting on page 50. I am looking at it as I write this up. I too am a fan of this car. We saw it run many times in the 70's & 80's.

[QUOTE=Scott Brown 567;142332]That's true. Here it is with beige paint. Maybe Bob Rice will have some pictures of the roadster in Wayne County trim.
And here it is. Bill Truby Photo. ![]() |
