I think I would look at some of the truck pulling sites, or forums and ask them. Its pretty common for them to make 800-1200 hp with a cummins and run some sort of automatic.

If you are going to be pulling a trailer with it, I would put the 6 speed manual in it. We had one with the auto and it would not live so it got sold. bought a second with a 5 speed that kept loosing 5th gear untill it went out of warranty and I fixed it so the nut would not come loose. And one other with a 6 speed with no problems what so ever. The 5&6 speed now have over 350K and 250K on the odometers with no other problems but that POS automatic no mater what we did it would not make it more than 50K without coming apart and we could no longer afford to risk it when moving cattle so it had to go.

I'm asking the question more for fun than anything, thanks for all the replies.
We have allot of the 6BT cummins engines here at work and we were wondering what it would take to take one to put into another vehicle for street or drag racing purposes. Personally, I think it would be cool to put one in a 63 wagon, tilt it over some and have a diesel slant six. |

Just happened to get suckered into going to Walmart with the wife today. While there I saw a mag that has a roadster rat rod type car with a cummins and running 50lbs of boost and nitrous. Its been 2 hours since I was there and the crs has kicked in and for the life of me I cant remember which trans or the name of the mag but if we go back I will check again and post.

What's neat and why you see it alot is the Cummins 4BT and 6BTdiesels have been used by Dodge, GM and Ford in various chassis over the years (a long time) and the key item is the adaptor plate....this isn't an after market item, but a necessary piece to make the engines compatible for all the different manufacturers.....bread trucks were/are great places to find these engine/trans combos and since Ford and GM both built them the chassis would usually have the 4BT and either one of the matching trannys with the appropriate adaptor plate (the 4BT and 6BT generally use the same adaptor.....if you go on EBAY and do some general searches on 4BT, 6BT in parts there usually is some things there to let you see what these are......

89-91 had a 727 trans. Will fit a Viper or Iron V10 and the Cummins.
