Default Division 1 National Opens

Sony and P.C. Richard & Son - Good News
January 11, 2010

Sony and P.C. Richard & Son wish to thank all the racers and fans in the Northeast Division for the six wonderful years of the NHRA National Open Series. Good News. There will be three Sony/P.C. Richard & Son Open races this year in 2010, however with a different format than in previous years. There will be no Open points or end of the year champions. For 2010 each of the three races will stand on its own.

SONY and P.C. Richard along with Division One are looking for input from – you – the racers and fans in the Northeast Division for idea’s on putting together a new and exciting racing program for the 2011 season, a racing program which can bring excitement to the racers, and sponsors as well.

THREE OPEN RACES 2010

April 9-11 Sony/PCRichard.com Atco, NJ

June 25-27 Sony/PCRichard.com Naperville, Canada

Oct. 21-24 Dutch Classic Presented by Sony/PCRichard.com Maple Grove, PA

$100 Sony/PC Richard & Son . . . Bounty Hunter

So let’s start 2010 right -- at Atco -- take out the 2009 champions and receive $100.

Naperville, Canada is not in the Bounty Hunter Program. It goes from 2009 Champions to Atco, and then from Atco to Maple Grove.

$2000.00 Sony/PC Richard & Son Double Up Eliminator Bonus In Any Two Categories at any of the three Open Races . . .

Receive $1000.00 check and $1000.00 P.C. Richard & Son gift certificate.

Win any two eliminators in any of the three races and you are a winner.

For instance, Super Comp and Top Sportsman at Atco win $2000.00

For instance, Stock at Atco and Super Stock at Maple Grove win $2000.00.

For instance, Super Gas at Atco and Stock at Naperville win $2000.00

To qualify or win any of the dollars, you need to have a “buy on line @ pcrichard.com” contingency decal on your race car.

How about 10k to win race.
And maybe bring back the quick 8 race while your at it.
Now you got a race.

So nice bonus from PC...they really know how to take care of the racers...hats off the them...

But what does this say about Div 1 and racing in general..not too many years ago there were 6 or 7 National Opens....now we are down to two basically...last year at MG for the Dutch it was something crazy like 170 to enter for 2K to win...kinda sad when you think what a that would be at a bracket race for that entry...

Of course the real prize for winning is priceless (THE WALLY) but I'm not liking what I'm seeing from our Div...less and less races...

Maybe what lots of us have said recently is coming around...more and more racers and tracks are concentrating on specialty races and such..like Masga and Nessa...and giving up on the high cost of paying for Div/Open races...

Dave,
I'm pretty sure it was 170 for 2 grand to win last year at the Dutch. They do that cause it's a 4 day race (which for some of us means 2 to 3 extra days off of work). Now they do throw in the best package bonus for the 2nd qualifying run on Thurs and Fri of $ 500 & $ 250 for the .90 Class Guys which is an added bonus.
I think the cut-down on races is due to the economy and just the car counts. I mean I think Island 2 years ago had like 11 cars in S/G and Numidia had like 16 last year. We actually had more cars there for the MASGA race the following weekend then at the NHRA Race (20 or 21). I mean I wish they didn't get rid of the point system since Dad told me since I run the Dutch already that I could run Atco in April and try to finish in the Top 10 in points. I just wonder with the adjustment in purse are the entry fee's going to be lower? I mean you look at this PC Richards/Sony is putting up $ 1,000.00 so there is some money that D-1 saves and then they save on not putting money out at the banquet for the Champions of the Opens. I like the new set-up but, I do think it will have to be tweeked a tad bit and I wonder how many racers will decide not to go to these races cause they win a Gift Card rather then cash money and they don't have anything to chase at the end of the year plus the entry fee is the same. Like Dave said there are the few who will shoot just to win a "Wally".
Looks like we may see you at some more MASGA races this year Dave...should be a good time!

Maybe we could get P.C. Richards/Sony and MASGA joined together. How about it Lucky? Bigger purse, bigger party, 2 race weekends. Sounds like win win for everybody.

Because there are only 3 maybe make some or all of them National Open/Division races and give out division points, hats, wallys, etc.

Thanks Gary and Sony and Division 1!
