Default Re: OEM computer confusion

Get a verification on the system configuration....the new "approved" list of aftermarket ECU's does NOT give you this info for YOUR combination....as an example I did the research and decided on a system and was assured it was a legal system after spending a great deal of cash to get it I found out that it wouldn't run with a single coil ignition system...the manufacturer had a letter from NHRA stating it was approved but, NHRA had a rule (unwritten at the time and may still be) that you could not run more coils on an engine than was OEM....I was told by the head of tech at the time (a couple years ago) that you could run fewer coils but not more than what originally came on the engine, NHRA would NOT let me use it....I lost my butt on this deal because of the loss I took and I still had to buy another system that would run my combo and still be under the "approved" rules....the aftermarket ECU listing for approved systems has a large number of manufacturers on it now compared to what there was even a couple years ago

Definitely "get it in writing" because I had to wait til the tech department checked with the field techs to see how they were enforcing these issues because there still seems to be some things that each division and track techs as they see fit, a letter or fax with the "stamp of approval" on it can save your butt....this also applies to more than aftermarket ECU's

If your engine was OEM with one (1) coil that is all you can run and make sure that the system you choose will support it(FAST is no problem, Electromotive TEC3r used to require their own ignition and did not support a single coil ignition unless they have upgraded it, as an example)....
