Terry,
Good post you nailed it.

442,
You know what they say a picture is worth a thousand words.

Fred,
Do you even race or have a car?
ihra.com should tell you all you need to know. You seem to do well with the keyboard.

Mountain man,
You are just pissed because no Pro Stock.

Michael,
Good job and be careful coming home. Especially on that road you live on.

To everyone else,
I wish I had went. I would love to go to IMR this week but it's doubtful. I will be out there soon though.

To IHRA,
Congrats

Chip Johnson

I think the winners of Stock and Super Stock would have been one of the likely winners if 90 showed up in each class.

Chip congrats on all of your wins and I look forward to you coming to US 131 this year, with you racing in the MOSER Race.

FREDJOHNSON-I challenge you to not say anything negative for one year. And please tell the world of ALL of your racing accomplishments. Simple-nothing bad-nothing negative-one year-tell us.

thanks.

Ok, You want a first hand report, I was there and can say it is a first class facility and I know there are quite a few cars that were still apart but should be at immokolee. The grandstands were filled and the new format was a home run for the fans. If the internet critics spent as much time supporting racing as they do trying to find things to tear it apart I'm surethe possibilty of future sponsors would increase. We all need to stick together and start doing less bitching and complaining and try to be the solution and not the problem. The economy has had an effect on racing and I commend IHRA for trying to come up with new ideas to try and help the racer with different forms of value for your money.

I came down to south Florida in part to experience racing in the S.E. and to meet racers and their families from another region of the racing community. So far it has been a very positive experience. Coming from a part of the world where we have one IHRA track (Edmonton, Alberta), where we have only one major IHRA race (Rocky Mountain Nationals) I wanted to see first hand how IHRA runs their program in their back yard - especially their new format. This is my opinion: Yes it would have been nice to have more class cars in attendance. It is an early race and for many (so I am told) they simply didn't have their cars ready to go. Also, you just can't ignore the effects the economy is having on the sport, whether it be IHRA, NHRA or any other flavour of the month.

IHRA's new Sportsman focused program has great potential. We had ample qualifying runs, eliminations started on time and weren't interrupted by pro sessions etc. It was all about the Sportsman during the day. Eliminations were all cleaned up, pictures taken and we (Sportsman) were back in the pits free to do what ever we wanted before 5 PM.
After that, around 6 o'clock the "Show" got underway. You could attend if you wanted, you could have a few pop's with the boys back in the pits, go out for dinner or whatever. You were finished for the day before the first Pro turned a wheel. Most of us know if there's a big negative to drag racing, it's the waiting. How many times have you sat for 3, 4, 5 hours because the pros take priority and you sit until they can plug you into the program? It sucks.

As far as contingency is concerned, I heard that additional contingency postings came in during the event. If I were a sponsor, I'd like to see if a new format had potential before I stepped up to the plate. It wouldn't surprise me if we saw a significant increase in contingency sponsors in the next few months.

This is the first time I have been to the WPB track and it's a very nice facility.
As much as I would like to have the grandstands filled to capacity to watch class racing I am doubtful I will see it in my lifetime. The spectators/fans come for the "show" and believe me when I tell you they came WPB this weekend. The grandstands were packed to capacity both nights and it was standing room only. How does this affect us as Sportsman racers? They're going to run the "show" with us or without us. If we are offered an opportunity to compete with our own "show" in conjunction with theirs then I think it's worth it.

Being a realist, I'd like to reserve final decision for another 6 months, but in saying that the first impression was positive.

Local racers near each of these events will be the ones to support IHRA this year, unless a racers just wants to go racing to be going and not worry about any money.

If IHRA takes some of the money they are paying for the "show" and increase the purse to about $10,000 for the winner of each sportsman class and pay a decent amount from the winners purse back, they will get more cars than they know what to do with. Especially if this was a cash purse and you didn't have to wait around on contingency payments.
[I] did not see much wrong with the contingency . They posted a fresh sheet at the tech trailer on friday afternoon. Steve Furr wonn about 10 grand in super rod sat for his win . , why don't you try going sometimes ,after all that is what makes it grow. Poor car count is due to racers not coming , don't get me wrong i know it needs to be better, but how do you think it is going to get better if you don't show your support . Sorry you are not happy. Now ,go ahead and let me have it now. I can take it.
