Dick, Why is it that every time someone asks that a replacement be allowed for an expensive rare or obsolete part, the new replacement part asked for seems to weigh less than the original piece? What would be wrong with simply asking to allow readily available and cheaper steel parts to replace no longer available aluminum fenders, hood, or bumpers? That would be a good way to bring out clones of rare factory racecars. But no, people have to ask for expensive lightweight carbon fiber or Kevlar. Sounds like what is really wanted is an advantage over others in a class.
On the topic of replacement aluminum heads being lighter, they are accepted because very few in the aftermarket make cast iron heads except for small block Chevys…and that is mainly because of a huge round track market. Travis (Disclaimer: Opinions expressed by me on this forum are exactly that, my opinions.) |

Dick....the answer for those who want to race a limited production combo is to race IHRA and to say the hell with NHRA. NHRA is stubborn, and ALWAYS right no matter what the situation. They have thier own agenda but Its a free U.S.A. (for now) so race where you want to and under the rules of that paticular association. The decision to allow the "Quality" thick fiberglass manufactured by a company that made this stuff that looks as though the part was made of steel was a good one in my opinion. The ruling was decided on by a manufacturer (MoPar), racers input, and several on the tech commitiee at that time to try and bring back the old rare combos for those who dont want to spend, cant spend, and find it crazy to spend the $10,000 to $25,000 or more for weak, bent up, rare parts if someone can even find the stuff. Carbon Fiber and Kevlar was NOT allowed under no circumstance. Its very easy to tell the difference between the two so that should not be an issue and at the time only ONE company was allowed to supply the parts. You are wasting your breath and energy arguing with anyone from NHRA unless it will benifit the ones in Calif. I guess only the Ford T-Bolt will be able to run AA/S or in S/S as they came with fiberglass from the factory instead of Alum. How many of those running today are still using thier original factory fiberglass instead of lighter replacement fiberglass parts not to mention Edelbrock Alum heads, Jerico tranmissions or C-4 automatics and maybe titainium valves instead of the hollow stem steel valves they came with? Food for thought?

Travis, Thanks I was not questioning Lighter parts. I figured same wt stuff. I guess my "theoretical Question" was Light wt parts give wt distribution advantage over good quality Steel replacements.. Kind of like the new Chrysler parts to reduce the wts.
X-tech- When I mentioned Kevlar I was merely thinking Light Glass stuff which would be close to AL wts.Good Fiberglass replacements would be a better question. Thanks for pointing out the flaws in my question . Dick |

Mopar has slid through just as much if not more when they were in bed with NHRA Some examples below. AAR and TA hoods on E bodies that don't belong WO SS scoops on stockers Aluminum intakes on 70-71 Six packs Plenty of superceded heads 750 Carter Competition Series carbs on Max Wedges Cross ram intakes that don't cross Low deck blocks in RB motors Adjustable rocker arms in any motor and plenty more. I won't even mention 3 speeds in SS for powerslide GM cars. It is what it is so deal with it because you are never going to change it once NHRA agrees to it. Geeeze! ![]()

Alex, must be that Ukrainian beer that ate your brain. Everybody got more than the Mopars. I don't mind the other guys getting their stuff, but we need some too. Some of the Mopar stuff you are nuts about, but that ain't nothing new. I guess if you drive a Ford all these years, it does that to you. Like the hood, don't you think that over the 40 years (70 -10) years that thing has equalized itself. You have a long neck and eat the top of trees. That's because I can't spell dynasaur. I gotta get your take on all the new stuff. The Fords, the Mopars, and GM coming or is it too new to comprehend? I'm sure glad we are friends cause I might have to choke you to get your blood flow to the brain readjusted. Who Dat
