Wagon Odd-Ball,
1966 Plymouth Belvedere II Station Wagon w/Hemi. Just how many of those things were made?? Jim R, On the 58' Pontiacs. What was the deal with all those camshaft options? The '886' dealer installed hydraulic. McKellar #6 .407/407 lift, w/283/293 duration. And in the trunk, another camshaft, a McKellar #7. A solid lifter cam w/1.65 rockers. .445/.447 lift, w/300/304 duration. PC |

Saw one,
Not ODD-BALL, but a Police Pursuit Vehicle. 1966 Dodge Polara with a 440/365 HP (480 lbs/ft torque). 3800 lbs. w/Police Interceptor Package w/Holley 570cfm carb. Heavy-Duty Suspension Handling Package. Special 727 Interceptor, w/higher stall converter, H.D. clutch package and valve body modifications. With 2.94 gears, capable of 140+ MPH. Swap in 4.10's, and could run 13.90's. Pop in 4.56's, down to 13.50's. Enough to give those 66' Olds 442's and 66' GTO's fits, in C/SA. Car was classed in C/SA in 1966. 1983 Chevrolet Impala Station wagon, 454, 4bbl, turbo400, 4.11 gear 12bolts rear end. Was available for law enforcement RCMP detachments for pulling trailers. Chevrolet built 100 of them. love to get my hands on one. I saw only one at an auction where the Canadian government was disposing of their old equipment.

Real moniker of that car.."The Nova Scotia Sled" Frank-Cola, The 66' Polara Police Pursuit did come with an RB-engine, 440/365HP. Vehicle Code K. Gear ratios for the automatic; 2.94 std. 3.55 opt. The New York State Troopers had the black & white 68' and 69' Fury's. A handful were 2 doors, all black 'unmarked cars'. Every two years they went on the auction block. You could pick one up for around $500, at the Poughkeepsie Armory, in 1970. 440/375HP in 3800lb. cars. (10.00 - 10.49 wt/hp). Fell into G/SA in 1970. I know you'll laugh, but my friend got one, a 1968 Fury 2-door sedan, with about 50,000 miles on it. The only thing he did was tune it up (w/plugs, wires, points and changed the oil). Not sure of the gears, but I think it was a 3.55 Posi. Ran it at Dover, and creamed a new 70' Pontiac GTO 400/350 for the 'G/SA' Class Trophy. Ran 14.60's. Didn't have the 'bubblegum machine' light on the roof, but still head that big monster chrome spot-light mounted on the door. PC Last edited by Paul Ceasrine; 04-09-2010 at 11:59 AM. They were what they call a "Paper Car" today. I believe Gary Ostrich had a hand in putting one or both of them together for Chrysler. There was one stick and one automatic combo built in 1966. I dont know if one was the Lee Smith M/P and Gas classed car or if he built his own as a 67 model? The combo ended up in the NHRA class guide because Chrysler said they made a bunch...lol. Not only that but the tail gate on the automatic car weighed about 600 lbs (full of lead) to make SS/FA. I heard the stick version exploded a clutch and flywheel and almost cut the car in half. The driver only recieved minor injuries. The auto version became the car called the "Lead Zephlin" I believe. Anyone else know anything other than what I have found out? I was reading a magazine tonight and there was a 1957 Chevy 4 door sedan in it. Factory original 245 hp 283 dual quad engine. Dealer order mistake in North Dakota now in Wisconson. 65,000 mile survivor.
About 10 years ago I bought a 494ci Hemi from a 4wd pickup puller. It had been built by Gary Ostrich. I stopped and visited him at his shop and the lead filled tailgate was mentioned in the convesation. |

Thank God they don't make the 65' Monterey's anymore. If they did, can you just imagine how many McDonald's wrappers you would see along the road? Of course, a 65' with a 427/410HP side-oiler would be fun. If you had that car, you would have to keep that rear window closed, or you could lose your wife and kids through the vacuum. I forgot. The 66' Belvedere II Hemi Station Wagon "Lead Zeppelin II" ended up with John Macey (circa 1973) out of Eastern Connecticut. We used to park right next to him at Dover Drag Strip. The wagon ran SS/FA (like you said), and at 11.50's. John got the wagon, after the first 'Lead Zeppelin" car, a 1970 SS/DA Hemi Cuda. The "Lead Zeppelin" lettering on the wagon was exactly like the Led Zeppelin III album cover.. Man those S/S Springs on that car lifted that wagon right up. Paul |
