John was evidently having some issues with something. I don't think anybody knew what. He has always been ready in plenty of time before. It was a bad deal and I hate it for him.

Great Job Brian! I was there and at 1st I too thought it was a chicken sh!t move by Brian untill I talked to several people involved including Brian and someone that was trying to help John correct is issue. I realized that Brian was out options and between orders from NHRA and Track officials he was at risk of being DQ'd also. Congrats on a well deserved win.

Racers,
I just got off the phone with John Clegg. John, Judy and JB(the jeggster) wants everyone to know that he's upset and disappointed that the Chaney's didn't wait for him. What happened was that he had just put on a new set of slicks on his car and they were still aired up to almost 30 lbs from the installation. He realized it when he went to check his tire pressure in the lanes, he admits that's his fault. He wants everyone to know it wasn't intentional. The Clegg's are one of the most honorable families in drag racing. I think its outrageous how they've been treated and DESERVED more respect. John was in the points chase and the Allstars points and that round put him out. He is very disappointed to loose a round by the lack of courtesy, but asked that this be my final word on the subject. As for me, I was defending a friend of almost 25 years that never would have said a word. As JB said, I hope we all can learn from this experience. Thanks Stacy McCarty Last edited by PONTIAC'S REVENGE; 06-29-2010 at 04:20 PM. |

This is interesting reading. Sounds like the problem is with NHRA, the track officials and the way they want to run their race.

Good job Brian! It was hot and a long race! Im Glad I got to stand outside the car and watch in confusion instead of being strapped in baking like you did!

my family has raced in d4 for many years.the chaneys raced in supergas with us.i know the cleggs too the son more than sr.they are both good people.we were at the race bryan did what the officials told him to do or he would be kicked out.he would have rather waited and raced if you know bryan you know this is true.in the heat of the moment the cleggs said and did some things to bryan they should opoligize to him for but brian would just as soon take a handshake and forget about it if you know him.would have been a hell of a race. As this story developed in this thread, I never once thought Brian did this on purpose. It was clearly a missunderstanding as both families are good people. Even though its way over the line, I can understand how "Cleggster" in the heat of the moment, would accuse Brian of cheating. What I can't understand is how someone with absolutely no part in this would degrade the Chaneys multiple times with or without knowing the real story.
I feel that John is a smart enough man to put himself in Brian's shoes and understand, no matter how crappy it turned out for him. If you were sitting in your car for 15 min. in the hot azz sun, and your opponent was still not ready to run, would you think he was playing games with you? John did ask him to wait, but gave the reason of getting his tires ready. How long do you expect that to take? He was paired in the lanes and moved forward with the groop. He also did not pull forward to the water untill the track offical told him John was broke and was no where in site. The Chaney's decision is OK in my book, and I hope the Cleggs can understand and put this behind them. Whats not OK in my book is this "If I was racing someone, i would pull out of line to give him a chance as most racers with dignity". Stacy "dont just run off and leave, it is only gentlemanly to wait, no excuses people." Stacy " Like I said this lacks integrity and sportsmanship, but most of all It still doesnt pass the smell test. " Stacy "but It sound like Chaney was awefully eager to get to the front of the line." Stacy This Girl gets on here and says that Brian has no dignity, is not a Gentleman, lacks integrity and sportsmanship, and will rush to the front of the line just to F-over another racer. Then She tops all those off with this. "The Clegg's are one of the most honorable families in drag racing. I think its outrageous how they've been treated and DESERVED more respect" Stacy How about the way you've treated the Chaney's on this forum? You are clearly way out of line and need to be "checked" M'am. There is a reason John asked Stacy not to post anymore on this. He doesnt want to be associated with her words. I have no words to describe this Woman. P.S. I realize that Stacy is not a Little Girl, but he acts like one, so he is called one. Please don't get offended Women out there. |

The two making acusations in this thread were not there and know nothing about it. Typical internet.
Claiming to be defending John is a bogus claim. Not one negative word had been said about John when their crap started. That is where the lack of integrity lives. Not with Chaney. Nobody that saw how long he sat there waiting would think he was in any hurry to get to the starting line.
