What about the '67? I think it is listed in the CG with a 289-225. And the '68 had the 302-230 combo as an option. I know those are not the body style being questioned, but they are Falcons.

As you pointed out, they are not the body being discussed. But (and I quote from the Falcon Fairlane Club) "From 1966 to 1970 the Falcon became almost a forgotten car."

Somebody that loves their Fords needs to petition NHRA for a much smaller HP factor on the 289/271. I'm just shootin' from the hip but I'll bet 250 or so would be more appropriate as a starting point. It's basically a high compression larger cam & slightly better intake than the 289/225, right? Ports are the same and the screw in studs are not a bonus anymore. Neither is the solid lifter cam in todays world.

Slightly more compression, better cam, bigger carb. Same intake. It would be hard to find the right iron heads but the aluminum replacements are available in SS.

Which leads me to a question, is anybody using the aluminum heads on a 289?

Jeff & John, From memory we had trouble making power from the 271 HP (HI-Po) heads back in the day, due to the heart shaped chambers. Ford used them to up the compression. They shrouded the stock sized valves and we found more power in standard heads with big valves. You are correct all the SBF heads, I saw had the same size ports. There were some expiremental heads that Doug Nash, on his Bronco Funny Car, ran that he could not talk about. Old mother Ford helping us little guys, NOT!

What really heats my motor is that Ford developed the "GT" head in the 60's and never released them until the 93 Cobra Mustang. All us small block lovers could really have used them but Ford's attitude was racers all want big blocks.

According to the NHRA engine classification guide, 68 Falcon/Mustang was available with a 4 barrel and 10.1 compression, with little bitty valves and a small camshaft.

Anybody traveling between Las Vegas and Phoenix Az, there is a real nice 68 V8 Falcon sitting in Wickenburg along the east side of 93. I have been going to stop and see it is for sale, but as usually always running late

are you interested in a factory 1965 289 bored .040 w forged TRW pistons part number L3096 F. factory 4 barrel cat iron intake w a hydraulic cam. 5C8 date code heads block and intake, its numbers match. Its a hydraulic flat tappet motor. never fired. on stand. trying to help you get started and help me with my projects. Chris.
