Thumbs up Re: cars that were built but not in the guide?

In '69 I had a friend in School who had a Yenko Corvair! It was for real, I saw the VIN ID. I wonder how many of those were made? Tom? Any idea? I wish I had it now! Jim

It was called the "Yenko Stinger". Don Yenko was involved in road racing before drag racing and the Stinger was his first "tuner" car. Google it.

The 1999-2003 Ford ZX2. The last listing in the Guide was for 1998 and there weren't even any engine specifications then.

You'll love Merle Grabhorn's "The True Exploits of a Yenko Stinger".... hilarious (and true!) story, at http://www.staginglight.com/editorials/mg1.html

Back in mid-1965 Don Yenko, noted Corvette racer and Chevrolet dealer from Cannonsburg PA ,decided to take the second generation Corvair and do to it what Carroll Shelby did to the Ford Mustang. He and his dad formed Yenko Sports Cars. Don purchased 100 white 1966 Corvair Corsa coupes with all the available performance parts. These cars were then modified with fiberglass body parts and tuned to one of four stages of preparation per customer specifications. The result was the Yenko Stinger. The SCCA classified the cars in its D-Production class. In addition to the original 100 white Stingers, a number of clones (all colors) have been built and raced (SCCA) by individuals.

Following the Stinger effort, Don got permission to build the Aluminum big block Chevrolet V-8, which Yenko Sports Cars installed in Camaros and Chevelles.

Quite a few. There were several stages, and they were built from around 65 or 66 up till around 68 or so. Yenko installed cams, carburetors, headers, ignition upgrades, roll cages, suspension upgrades, as well as wheel and tire packages. Most of them were dark blue with white stripes.

I have a 65 Corsa 140 4 speed with a Crown racing suspension kit sitting in the storage building. I've even got two sets of Porsche 40 TIN Zenith 3 barrel carburetors.

87-91 Callaway Twin Turbo Corvette. It was GM RPO code B2K, and there were over a 100 in each year they were built, one year i believe was over 500. Those cars made great power with very little boost, and I my memory serves the turbos would support a lot more than the 375-425 they were rated at.

Was/is the 1965 Chevelle Z-16 big block car in the classification guide? 375 hp, 396, a 201 unit-build car, supposedly 200 2dr. SS hdt. cars and 1 SS convertible. All were equipped w/Muncie close-ratio 4 speeds. Never saw one of these cars in person that was the "real deal" ....only a couple of phony "clones"....WJ

The 65 Malibu SS Coupe is in the guide with the 396/375 4 speed only. It's a natural B/S car. The convertible is not in the guide.
