Default Testing In Southern California

How often do you SoCal class racers test at Fontana? How about Irwindale, even though it's eighth mile?

Irwindale is open every Thursday evening for testing. $20 will get you 4-5 hits and still home for supper. Short shutdown but fine for any stocker.

I used to try and test at Irwindale. The shutdown is too short for the faster stockers. You have to go around the complex to get to the pits,up and over multiple speedbumps and dips. I also had problems with an inconsistant starting line. The only way to test in SoCal is to rent a track and that doesnt happen very often. I usually test during time trials at divisional and national events.

Thanks. Seriously considering relocating back to SoCal next spring. Was at Irwindale last Thursday, and got mixed comments about that shutdown area. Although my car is set up for 1/8 mile, was just curious if Fontana runs on a regular basis as I'll need to re-gear, tires etc.

I ran there at night and the shut down area is definitely to short - it is "to hell and gone" around the circle track and back to the pits - and that is if you can find your way in the dark.

Lots of street tires tearing up the track and at the end they have a street tire burnout contest.

:-) LOL

I run both of my B/S Fairlanes there and I love it. Irwindale is AWESOME.I wish other Division 7 tracks prepared there starting line like Irwindale does. Just my 2 cents

Cool Re: Testing In Southern California

Never had a problem testing at Irwindale on a Thursday. I ran the Summitt Racing Series tha last three years, using one of the stockers,an O/SA Chevelle wagon that would hook up anyplace, and a K/SA Chevelle hardtop that works OK also. Some times the track isn't prepped as well as others, other times, people stand cars on their end. Depends when you go, although the conditions don't improve as the night goes on. It's a great place to test most of the time. 90% of what we need to know happens in the first half of the track, and 1/8th mile isn't as hard on engines.
