I was looking at the 2010 Mustang classification guide and one engine stands out, but never heard of it available in the CJ.
I know what the 330 is, and that the 358 and 428 are pushrod engines. I am curious what the 281 (4.6L) combo is and rated at 235 HP ?? ![]()

Alan,
The 4.6L is the '05-'10 3 valve engine it is actually a pretty good combination. Anthony Bongiovanni is working on one and it looks promising. You can build one for a bunch less than the supercharged 4V. See you at the races, Wayne Kerr |

Thanks guys for the responses.
My uncle has found a nice 2010 White V-6 Mustang with 19K miles and is looking to build a CJ "tribute" car. Just be a matter of finding the correct trim pieces and dress it out. I have heard it takes 150 hp more than the factored hp to get a car to run under the index. If so, that 3v needs to make 385 hp at the crank. Seems do-able....maybe ?

This is the combo I was going putting in my new BIW CJ. This motor is not a cheap motor to build. You must use a $700 new throttle body, $700 new intake, and $2300 new factory cylinder heads. That puts you just under $ 4000 for the top haft. I don’t think you can build a full blown 281ci race ready motor for under $8500. Why would you build a 281ci for $8000 to $9000 to run K/SA. When you can build a new 428ci for $12000 to $13000 and run A/SA.
These cars are not as easy and cheap to clone as everyone thinks. You better plan on spending $30000 plus after you buy a car. I’m well over $40,000 on my car right now and still need $6000 to $10000 to finish it.

I went on Ford's site looking for the unique CJ parts.
Yes, it can add up quick. $ 950 hood, special grill. emblem and CJ gas cap. Not sure if the the front bumper cover is unique or not. I found a dealer 3 hours from here showing they have the "Hot Rod 3V" crate engine. Ford claims 350 hp from the engine, but also has removed the engine from their site. If the "150 hp over factored hp" rule is close, then we would only need another 35 hp to get the car under index ? Just curious. ![]()

You can't use the heads, intake and throttle body form that hot rod motor. Those part numbers are not approved.
Look at the part numbers that are approved for the 2010 CJ 281.
