This car, a '57 T-Bird was running C/SA and I watched a time trial wherein he went 13-flat (don't remember the mph) by simply stomping the accelerator... no power-brake/stall-start at all. Zero wheelspin.
The car was 10 years old at the time... Parham and Payne were there, also, with their 300 HP '57 4-door hardtop McCullough blown Ford, too.

The T-Bird belonged to Dave Edmunds from Ohio. Here's another picture of it from 68 racing Ramon Lowe.

Tony, There are several on here that have the old "Red Books", but alas no engine spec's book. I was told (I think by Cloy F.) that they still had the old specs for all, but that was years ago.

My old engine spec book is in the hands of Duane Eiskant Sr. (Ice Bucket) If I could contact him I hope he would send it to me. I would even pay the shipping. It was a loaner to him while he was working for IHRA full time. It has all of the old engine specs from around 1949 (Olds) and newer with spring pressures, duration, overlap specs, etc. . Is there anyone out there who could help? Bill Hawk, Lil Duane???

That brings to mind one positive thing NHRA has done - you used to have to buy the classification guide! Now you can look it up on the internet for free. Better keep our mouth shut.
Also, look at that 57 T-Bird. The class numbers are on the door and the contingency stickers are on the window! |
