Apples and oranges. Memphis and Gateway CLOSED, due to the failure of the business to generate a profit. Dover Downs Development does not seem to be doing well right now. I expect their Nashville Super Speedway to possibly close before long.

Big difference between Memphis and Gateway closing, and VMP and Rockingham possibly changing sanctioning bodies.

That being said, I'm not at all sure that those two tracks switching sanctioning bodies is a death knell for IHRA, I hope it is not.

Cool Re: Rockingham and VMP to nhra?

Sorry,

I think both VMP & Rockingham will be part of Div 2 NHRA in 2011 ... I hope to hear that IHRA has picked up some tracks here soon ....

Like Dave said they also lost Epping, time will tell but
we need a another place to race ... It's not good to have everything in one place , competition is healthy ...

Dave,

VMP will be part of D1 if they change. The points race there 2 years ago was a D1 race. I doubt that it would be switched to D2, but stranger things have happened.

I always thought that the reason they went to IHRA this last time was after Scott Kalita(sp)died there was major expensive shut down improvements required in order to keep a National event. VMP did those improvements had 1 more National and then NHRA pulled their event. They then switched to IHRA. Someone correct me if I am wrong on this.

It would make sense to make VMP run D-2 because it would help out the mix of just Fla and Ga races that they do now plus we already have 6 races in D-1 compared to 5 in D-2 but, I have a strange feeling since VMP has already been D-1 before I have a feeling they will be coming back to the D-1 fold in 2011.

The Suffolk, VA NHRA points race was always a Div 2 race.

The annual treck, when I lived in South Miami, was 1,000 miles and took 2 days each way.
That was before I-95 when there was three and six mile sections open at a time. On & off, on & off, etc.

That was when I towed with an open trailer. Oh wait, I still do.
