With that said, are the older traditional stockers in the AA thru F classes at a disadvantage, yes. Are the new cars dominating event wins at the divisional and national level, no. So, the argument is the old cars can't the glory for winning class which doesn't pay anything? I understand. And just to be clear, no I don't own a class car anymore but I don't think you have own to voice an opinion. If some of you guys are going to stop racing because you can't win class then shame on you for quitting on something you love. The car I owned was by no way a top notch SS/IA car but I loved it and just wanted to be out there. My reasons for selling my car was money. If I could have afforded to go to a few races I would have been fine with running the index. For me I enjoy being around the guys and having a good time and running my car was a bonus. That's my two cents. |

Smitty, you are going to get flamed, ya brought up a dead horse!
I'll skip over the LT1 issue with you, what I will say is that the new car situation is totally removed from that and a superseded and different issue, as in, it was probably the 'coal that started the diamond'!!!!!!!! I was one of Woodro's first victims in 'H' Class at the '95 Gators with my 255 Nova, yea, history repeats itself, I lost to Uncle Al in the final, not Woodro's 'new super car'. I believe you are missing the point and it's probably the same reason why you don't have a CLASS CAR anymore! You were never a 'fast guy' and all ya wanted to do was hang out with ya buds and bracket race in the 'big time'. It's a shame that we lost you, but, did you ever consider that S/SS is a performance based class in the first place and you wouldn't have joined us when you did, knowing what you do now! I was like you for a long time (20 years or so, with some class wins) and I have seen the light. I sat back and figured I was good for a while with what I had for a lot of years, but I had to spend some money in the right place and I did, now I'm competitive with the 'old school' (read carbs) fast guys for a change. UNTIL YOU GO THRU THIS CYCLE, YOU WILL NEVER UNDERSTAND THE NEW CAR IMPACT !!!!!!!!!! It will show it's ugly head for years to come if something is not done soon !!! Remember there are some new models coming out. The best line I've heard so far on this BIG issue is 'FOLLOW THE MONEY TRAIL' I could go on, but that's it for now. BTW, I got me truck back ya'll, in good shape as well!

Uh, can someone explain WHY we have to "go through this cycle"? It was wrong then, then it was wrong again, then it was wrong again, it is wrong now, and it's going to be wrong again. Why not just make it right the first time? Or does everybody have to "get a turn"?

The point that many posters seem to miss is why should we spend hundreds of dollars to attend a race in order to lose to a car we have no chance of beating. They seem to miss the point that just because the newer combos aren't winning every race that if we draw a heads up race we might as well pack our bags and head home because there is no way that we can run even close to the new cars. My combo has long been one of the slower combos in the classes that I could run however for about the same cost I could change to a faster combo. Now unless I can afford to spend $100,000 or there about I have no chance whatever of beating the DP's or Mustangs. I now plan to run IHRA next year. Many other racers don't have this option.
I also raced through time when the LT1's dominated. NHRA made a wise decision to place them in their own class before we got fed up and stopped racing. This is the only option that I see that will save stock racing now. As has been stated the factories can easily add new combos every year with unrealistic HP ratings. I see no end to our problems without placing the new combos in thier own class.

It's Wednesday and no horsepower has been given out but the records have been posted. Does this set the precedence that National Opens are free game to go as fast as you want? Whats the deal with this?

Gosh Carson...I thought thats what the altitude adjusted tracks were!!
They need to do something about the New cars (hp), triggers, and altitude correction formulas. Unfortunately NHRA will never do anything as long as racers just bitch and complain. Its a shame that they won't do the right thing, but its down right sad that we just allow it. Lack of Huevos on our part. RJ |

R J, since you are the man and have now spoken, Maybe something will come down the pike. Just Maybe. The easy way is to buy a new Ford, the hard way is to soup up those combos you got. If you put an aftermarket intake on the hemi, it sorta looks like a ford. And just plug up the other 8 holes like we did some 40 years ago. It's an idea.

And hell yes those DP cars could set the record by at least three tenths, just some lousy luck with the weather. We knew we had a very short window to get the record and that we may never have a Rat Motored Chevelle set one again the way things are going. We were lucky to set it with such a SLOW CAR that could probably never outrun a DP for sure. Thats why we need to give those guys an FX class or something so the slaughtering can stop. Hay Michael, Why is it ihra saw the need to separate these cars and the supercharged cars by keeping the FI classes, although some in the FI classes may still get run over. How many supercharged cars have run ihra besides Bill and his daughter? very few if at all. That tells me they dont like being separated and running off their own index. I guess IHRA has brighter minds that for saw a problem and at least tried to fix it. Dont say much for nhra.
