Question Racing Gas Containers

What do you guys do with your empty race gas barrels? Can you sell them to someone? Do you reuse them etc? I have a couple I would like to get rid of.

Thanks

Robert

I either swap them out when I get a new drum delivered or I've also given them to a co-worker who had been making them into BBQ grills/smokers.

Needless to say, I air them out pretty good and he probably takes additional precautions before modifying them.

Thanks for the reply guys. I am just looking for someone that needs these barrels. My supplier that I buy gas from does not take them back....Oh well, I guess I will have a couple burn barrels in the future....LOL...

Our metal recycler will take them if you cut off the lid. Its then considered scrap metal.

Hey Bob, how do you cut off the lid without making them go boom? I have been wanting to cut the lower section off one so I can use it for a cleaning pan.

Air chisel or saw ought to do it. I usually rinse them out with water just in case of a spark.

the best thing is pump exhaust gas in them, from your regular car. the carbon monoxide will displace gas fumes. then wash out with water.

Fill it with water...
Our local track takes them once in a while and turns them into trash cans.
