The car count is due as much to travel expenses and the lack of class eliminations as it is anything, although some I have talked to have also mentioned entry fees and the threat of an oil down fine, as well as just growing weary of being the designated whipping boys of NHRA.

Oil hit, or at least got close to, $100 a barrel yesterday. We may see diesel prices hit $4.00 a gallon or higher before Memorial Day. That combined with other factors, including the fact that fuel prices are going to stagger or stunt the economy again, may have a much greater effect on car counts than it did the last time.

The date and track changes of D-2 events prior to and after the Gators definatly has effected sportsman car counts!

That somewhat "eliminated" the fact that many Used to consider it as a vacation, shake off the dust, do some testing, attend a couple of divisionals, get some early grade points, and race at a National event!
AND (most importantly) keep the "significant others" happy!

With expenses going up, up, up, I will run the Sportsnationals @ BellRose and the rest of the season will be day to day.

NHRA is desperate....they opened up slots from 80 to 100 for one grade point. I bet that brings in the 8.90 and 9.90 people......LOL.

Plenty of parking at Gainesville on weekends, their solution? raise prices.
They have a combo payout for pro and super pro, a runoff for the money, super pro with box's.

Just my observation. Looking at the entry list for SS at the Gators it seems to be that the PURE super stocker is a dying breed as GT seems to be the weapon of choice. Is there a particular reason for this ( rules ) and if so would it be the fwd to rwd conversions or more classes to race in or both.

Another observation in stock-----does anybody drive a stick anymore ? The only way to fly !
