Great article! It brought back a lot of wonderful memories for me. Joe Oldham has been a hero of mine for many, many years.

Lew,did you read where he mentioned the locations of the tracks on L.I.?His geograppy
calculations are a bit off, otherwise it was a good article. They did a feature a while back on Old Bridge Speedway about the drag racing on the front straightway.
Both Hemmings mags (Muscle car and Classic Car) are the only two mags worth reading today.

Nice article with great pictures .............That and the fact that I attended the '68 NHRA Springnationals at Englishtown and witnessed the action firsthand .

@Finespline - I had never read the book, although I think there had been excerpts printed in a few magazines.

@Ed - I thought it strange that somehow Islip had moved farther out on the Island than the Hampton's!!

@Jack - I also remember the race first-hand. I took my then-girlfriend to the show on Sunday while on leave from the service. We almost got nailed by Bill Jenkins' SS/D '68 Nova in the pits that morning, so I guess I shouldn't have been surprised when she broke up with me when I bought my 69 Nova!

Those were the day's!
