Mr. Blackmon. I like to deal in fact, not overinflated talk. The facts on how much yall claimed hasn't been posted yet. You can say $6,000, then $5,500 all you want. Don't make it fact. If you were to wait until the facts came out and then posted, It would carry a lot more weight with me. I just can't believe you can claim $2,500-$1,100 more than the people who claimed on the other two nitro jams. I could be wrong.
Another fact is that you haven't been to any Crandall, Lufkin, or Baton Rouge IHRA race, and then you tell me I'm silly because I won't drive to San Antonio from Lafayette LA because the Risk vs. Reward isn't there compared to other races. I don't believe there has been a Blackmon car at any race besides San Antonio in the last 8 years, but all of us are crazy for not supporting IHRA. Go ahead and say you won't be at Baton Rouge this weekend because your car is broken (sorry for your misfortune), but that doesn't explain why you weren't there for the Nitro Jam earlier this year. I can only assume you weren't there because you ain't traveling for a race that’s not worth the potential reward. WE (us who go to more than one track a year) have to pick which races are worth the time off and money spent and wear on our cars and rigs. If IHRA is paying less than NHRA, even though its usually 1-2 rounds less, it isn’t worth it when you figure all risk and rewards in. It isn’t just about money. Lord knows we don’t do it for money, but if IHRA would increase the purse substantially, it would bring a lot of cars over which would make the non-money reward greater also. IHRA has all the ingredients to take over sportsman racing besides the motivating factor to draw large car counts. That was my point. It wasn’t “rounds vs money is better in IHRA.” That goes away when more cars show. |

Hagen you are somewhat correct in that we havent been to many races recently, but way over exagerating the time frame. At the end of 2008 when the track here lost it's sanction & the closest IHRA race was near 350 miles we decided to quit just due to the time away from work. In short I'm not traveling for any race.
We have had all of our stuff for sale since early 2010 & sold most of it. With a race in our back yard again it was just too close to not put the car back together & go, maybe it'll help to sell it. Who knows, after a win we may go on & fix it & get to a few more races |

Ok, you went to Tulsa in 2007 and 2008 according to DRC. Other than that, you haven't been to a race outside of San Antonio since 2004. What I'm saying is that you can't say IHRA is a better value because you have no basis for judgment. That’s all, not bashing. Just saying you have no idea what is the overall better value when you figure in every aspect, monetary and emotional. So don't say my statement is the silliest thing you've ever heard. Its true, and obviously a lot of people agree with me. That’s why they choose to tow further for NHRA races. More value for their time/money. Obviously IHRA sees my point also, or they wouldn't be experimenting with the two big money races they are offering this year. I hope everyone floods these races and shows what a payout will do to attract cars.

Just wanted to bring this thread to the top to give Hagen a chance to call out Blackmon for winning "only" $5,400 at San Antonio, and not the $5,500 he said he was going to make. I know, it's only $1,800 per round won, but...

Yea, Mikey boy. Congrats to him for backing up the talk with facts. You must have been real anxious to shoot your mouth off about this one, cuz I checked the list this morning and it hadn't been posted yet. If you read (and comprehend) my previous post (#19), you will see that I said I could be wrong, but I didn't think he could claim $1,100 more than Mryon Piatek. So I was wrong. I don't claim to know everything (unlike You), but I'm going to go ahead and say that since he just threw the car together for a race close to home, he might not be claiming all that once proof of recent purchase is required. Things have changed since the last time they tried to collect.
BTW, It was $1,800 a round because nobody showed up. With the way IHRA runs "Stock", Now I see why. |
