I'm looking at a right out of the showroom Camaro -- straight from the factory. Sponsor would like for me to do that for the publicity. I guess there's nothing stock about a stock car.

Very true Bobby. About the only place you could possibly do that would be an unleashed event. run the 12.00 class

It would take some work to make one of those tanks run 12.00. I can't really tell they are any faster than an '01 or '02 LS1 Camaro/Firebird. And, I have driven a few. They are quieter & smoother.

I just want to race a real "stock" car and can't. IHRA used to have their Pure Stock divisions in the 1970s and 1980s. Are they still around?

Yes, But the car has to be in the classification guide...

Bobby....Danny Waters Sr.should be able to tell you if it would be legal and in the guide. IHRA uses the NHRA guide sometimes. It would be a B/PS which is the same 9 lb wt. break as C/SA or C/S stick. The sticks and automatics run heads up in pure stock. The index was 12.45 the last time I looked in drag review. At least put a 9 " slick or some DOT drag slicks on it and open the exhaust (cut outs) to have a half decent chance to run the index number. Very few B/PS cars running (if any) so if you could run 12.44/12.45 it woud just be a shoe polish race for the eliminator just like NHRA stock is 99% of the time.

P.S. The best part of pure stock is you do NOT need to install a roll bar and safety harness in your brand new street ride. Factory OEM seat belts or aftermarket lap belts and a helmet is all that is required to go thru tech for pure stock unless your car runs quicker than 11.50. If you ran an NHRA or IHRA regular stock class like M/S (14 lb. break) and above then the roll bar and harness are required.

Not even close. You would have better luck getting a AVEO to run under the index.

What about IHRA pure stock? If it fit a class that would be a real good real world representation....Just a thought. I would like to see one for diversity among the new cars.
