Is it the motor-transmission combo or the transmission-car combo? Car that came as 3 speed must reatain 3 speed or because the motor came as a 2 speed you can run a 2 speed?

Brad, it's engine & trans combo, but you can run a 3 speed behind any engine in SS/GT now.

Does NHRA allow a 2 speed P/G behind engines that were 3 speed from the factory in GT or regular S/S now that they allow a 3 speed behind 2 speed engine combos? Example 396/427/454 BBC or maybe an LS-1 .

Not sure why anybody would want to run a 2 speed if they could have a 3 speed?

Better traction on a junk track like Charlotte. One less shift. A big block dosent care with all the torque avaliable. Just thinking out loud.

Would be nice if 2 spd. glides were allowed in BB Ford combos.

Terry,
i don't think the 3 speeds hurt traction because most of them have 1st. gear close to glide ratio and extra gear just close up the 1-2 spread that glide has. Mike Taylor3601 |

I was at Atlanta a few years ago talking to a well known SS racer about his car. He had the option of a power glide and a turbo. With the parts that were available 5 or so years ago he said " It's quicker with a turbo but more consistant with the glide and im here to go rounds not run fast" Don Jackson
