I know it's not Stock/Super Stock racing, but IHRA has been doing a 2 part story on Tommy Ivo. In one of the pictures, it shows his car with the wheel covers. I think Shirley ran them, and the Jade Grenade, as well. Why did NHRA (and probably IHRA as well) outlaw them? It seems like they may have contributed to an accident, but I just can't remember how. They did look cool.

The story I heard was that the wheel covers acted like rudders at speed and they where outlawed.

The "wheel pants" made TF cars very difficult to control. Most teams which tried them took them off long before they were banned.
