No presently NHRA legal ECU can be done that way. People talking about this are not presently working with this stuff.

Ed,
I do know that; But, who said it is legal? I am sure that the people doing it are sneakin' under the radar. Just like all the other areas that are going un- noticed. I am pretty sure that these computer wizards are getting away with it somehow. It's all relative to the situation. Peace. Hope you do well this weekend.

I refuse to answer that question under the grounds that it may tend to lend in incriminating eye to the situation.

The technology is there, it is very doable with the ECU's that are on the NHRA acceptable list, But....there sure aren't very many drive by wire cars that are showing up in the winners circle.

The new go fast stocker's look like a rich mans game for who can go the fastest......rather who can win the bracket race part of the game with what they have.

Drive by wire is getting more interesting all the time....I was going over some info on a new interface at work that allows you to go to full throttle off the line and once you near your programmed speed it will throttle back to maintain whatever you want with the pedal still on the floor.....all without even touching the main ECU....

I have used sensors with beams so small they are invisible and anything can be used as a target to trigger it, they are also accurate to less than .010 of an inch,no magnets required....chips so powerful that the possibilties are limitless....

Ed, the difference between what you are talking about and what everyone else is talking about is what we call "front door tuning vs back door programming"....FAST went from version 1.34 manual tuning to version 2.0 auto tuning(backdoor programming) with just a software upgrade, no internal hardware mods....

Only the OEM's (including aftermarket) can detect a "footprint" left by someone who has modified the original programming, not to be confused with the tune but the program that allows you access to the tuning parameters.....is it being done?...I'm sure it is after all Hypertech has been hacking OEM ECU's for years and now dozens of other companies are also.....nothing surprises me anymore, if we can think it, someone can do it....

I have been hacking OEM ECUs since 1990, I know how it is done. That is how I have been making my living for a good while, modifing not only the tuning, but the main operating systems as well. What some here don't seem to get it that a firmware change (components added) not just software programming would be needed to make one wireless.
Somebody standing outside the car, tuning it as it goes down the track would a joke anyway.

After all of these posts I still have not seen a direct answer to Larry's question. Does anyone know the technical rules for the $1,000,000.00 race that Ron Folk runs? Can one of the fly by wire cars pass tech inspection at this high dollar race?

How about asking the people putting on the race?
