Doug
Looks like a great turnout. Great shots too. One question. In the second group of photos it shows Al Corda's Dart. Really clean looking car. What was going on with the grill? Looks like the drivers side was falling out. May be the camera angle but it looks strange in the starting line shot and the wheels up shot.

NSS rules state the hood scoop can be 5 inches tall. I agree Im not crazy about it but there are really not that many 5 inch scoops in NSS. I use a standard Hemi scoop on my 64 Plymouth and I have plenty of room for my carbs. At NHRA races of few of you guys ask about NSS racing. It is lots of fun like NHRA racing. Got some cool cars, nice people to race with. The expense of this type of racing is lower. The cost is directly related to how fast do you want to go. NMCA events run alot like NHRA points meets running Friday-Sunday. We get 3-4 qualifiers and race Sunday morning. NMCA pays NSS racers a $1000 to win and has a fair amount of contingency sponsors paying $150 a sticker. I understand NHRA racing is the major league in racing but when I hit the throttle on my DragnWagn and do a nice wheelie, shift through the gears and and cross the finish line and my win light is I on Ive got the same smile on my face as I would at any NHRA event. To me that what racing is all about having fun with nice people.
See ya at the track, Doug Duell |

Nicely said, Doug.
I had nothing but fun when I raced with the NSS but the move to FL put me too far from what are now mainly Northern races. Note to other's not familiar with NSS/NMCA. Most of the cars with the wild scoops run in the NMCA rules which allow for overlarge hood scoops to clear engine modifications. A vast majority of NSS racers build their cars to look just like they did in the '60's with factory hood scoops. JimR

NSS rules can be found at: http://www.nssracing.com/nmca-rules/
Those with eligible cars ought to consider the Dave Duell Classic in Bowling Green next month http://www.daveduellclassic.com It's a blast and you don't need to spend a fortune on titanium lugs nuts to be competitive as you choose the (reasonable for your car) Index you want to run. ![]() ![]() |
