There really shouldn't be any discussion - if the tree malfunctions, the race should be re-run! It's a piece of equipment and equipment breaks so fix it and give both competitors the same advantage.

If you had been Marion's opponent would you have thought a re-run was called for?
If this problem with the tree was a factor in Marion's run he should not have gone down the track. When he did he took his chances to win. His opponent did nothing wrong and I can understand why Jay would not have re-run this. The driver behind Marion may or may not have noticed the top yellow was out. Could be the starter noticed it and changed the bulb on his own initiative. Regardless, NHRA officials don't always make the wrong call except when they throw me out for something. :>) |

It shouldn't be up to the racer to have to make it right. Tree malfunction = re-run, period.

I feel it is the responsibility of the track/racing organization to provide two lanes to race on that are equal. Each lane should be safe and all equipment operate the same in both lanes. I wouldn't want to race in a lane that has a finishline photocell out. Why should someone have to race in a lane with a different or real short tree?
Another thought: That could add some real drama to "lane choice" Do you want the lane that hooks or the lane with the full tree? How about taking the lane that has "All" the photocells working? "No brainer" Ihra rule book has it "right"!

What do we pay for when we pay the entry fee ??? That everything is working properly ... If the tree doesn't work, than you have a re-run
no questions asked ... I think we pay for a fair race for both racers , why should a tree screw-up dictate the RACE ... Re-run the Race or give him his money back , you can't keep screwing the customer ... He made the wrong call & the racer who pays to enter Suffer's ? I don't think there's a racer out there who wouldn't re-run when he knew the real story about what happened ? * What's wrong with this Picture ! ! ! Yes, I know they have a tough Job, but make the Right call ? What do you think would happen if it was Force, Dixon, Schumacher, Beckman, Yes there would be a re-run no-matter what .... End of story ... @ What about the next time.??

Marion went to Jay and asked for a rerun, Jay told him he just called Gram Light and "NO" rerun.
Marion had trouble with Jay a few yrs ago and at that time told him he would punch him out if he got screwed again. So I think Jay has one on for Marion. Marion said he called him every name he could think of, then put his hand out to shake, but Jay wouldn't shake. We will see what happens this weekend in Mich., [red light] could be coming? |

Should have been a rerun with a malfunctioning tree.
But I am just curios if Marion uses a tree blocker to leave off a clean bottom bulb. I know alot of the guy's are doing that. If he is maybe that is why the director said it was a non issue. |

Marion does not use a blocker of any kind.
