If it has 6 lug hubs you can put 16" wheels on your 24' trailer as I did. If not you can change the hubs too.

Thanks for the replies. I was considering 22' but a friend said everyone who got one hated it from the first day. It is hard or impossible to maneuver long trailers at my house, and I "hope" not to have too much "stuff" to take with me.
The 16" option turns out to use 8 lug wheels and 235-80R16 tires. Tire mfg. seem to be the same sorry choices we have in 225-75-15 and while the 16" are rated for more weight, I doubt they are rated for more speed. Here in the west, distances are long and speed limits are 75, so going 65 would take forever to get anywhere. The 16" is spec'ed at 2.5" taller and that might help a little with higher road speeds. Is 8.5' width legal "everywhere" these days? I appreciate the help, spending 10K these days is traumatic. |

I don't know where you are in the west, but I tow from Disneyland in SOCAL to Seattle and back and for towing, the speed limit is still 55. Sure I tow at a higher speed (usually about 62) but the speed limit is 55.

Like everone has said. Get one bigger than you think. A 28', or 32' if you are thinking a 24'. Racing junk and here will get you a great deal. If you step up to those you are going to have a better chance of getting the 16" wheels. Whatever you do make sure that your tow vehicle is up to the task for pulling and stopping. In the midwest in the Kansas area it is 75 MPH on major interstates, it just recently changed.

I have had an AutoWagon 24' since I ordered it back in 1990. I have the 5200 lb Torflex axles on it with Goodyear ST 225 75R15 tires on it. They wear like iron, an I have never had a problem with one of them. The Wells Cargo trailer is top notch and it is a good move to upgrade to the .040" skin.

You can use a 6 lug 16 in. wheel. I switched from 15 to 16 a few years ago and feel much better when i'm towing. 15 in. tires just can't hold up to the weight.

I used a Pace trailer for years and it was business as usual to have a couple of tire failures every season with the 15" tires. When I bought my current Featherlite it came with 16" and I have gone six years with no tire related problems. (knock on wood) I replaced the tires this past year only because they were getting old and not because of wear. It just doesn't make sense to use 15" tires anymore! I mean don't we have enough to worry about these days without having to wonder whether or not we will even make it to or from the track because of trailer tires? Jim
