Exclamation Re: Indy 2011 A Stick Challenge...and A/SA Challenge!

It looks like both classes will have some interesting match ups!

I have heard a lot of chatter about last minute engine thrashes and dyno sessions.

No doubt, we will have some excellent heads up action for the Challenge Races!

Let's not forget that we have some excellent support here! Please review the sponsors and contributors!

I will be looking for Challenge members on Wednesday!

I will have some goody bags and contingency stickers if needed.

If you are competing in the challenge races you can e mail me at jimschaechter@earthlink.net and give me your cell or directions to your pit area, description of car, etc. You can call me on my cell also 563-505-0293.

I will be helping my brother with his car so I may not be cruising until after the second stock qualfier.

Also, we will be meeting at Jeff Teuton's pit on Friday after stock teardown to award the winner and runner ups, so stay tuned there.

As I mentioned before. This would not be possible without excellent racer and vendor support. A special THANK YOU to Ken Miele and ClassRacer.com! We could never pull this off without the power of the internet and a great web site!

Make sure to know who is supporting heads up class racing and support them back!

Thanks! Jim

I have it on good authority that NHRA will ladder all classes in Stock and Superstock this year. We'll keep you posted.

ladders will be per NHRA so this will be a good thing cause if there is any no shows at all that racer paired up with the no show will receive a broken single

Lightbulb Re: Indy 2011 A Stick Challenge...and A/SA Challenge!

Troy Henderson brought up the idea of a traveling trophy for A stick and I think it is a great idea! I won't have it done for this year, bur Nick at Long Shifters gave me a great start! It is appropriate in that it is a Long Pistol Grip Stick!

I was wondering if anyone has a connection to a trophy shop or carpenter metal fab who could donate some product or skills to build a base and help out? It needs to be large enough to add names to it each year! The winner will hold it for the year and bring it back to keep it or pass it on! Any help would be appreciated!

James, I have an uncle who has a woodworking shop and would make a nice base for the trophy. I can get it done for free and ship it back to you.

I'm glad to see there will be an official ladder produced. It will cut down the BS in the lanes.

I assume the winner will go to teardown? And seal up the runner-up just in case? Has anyone mentioned this yet?

Well, Since this is an unoffical sportsman supported race, I don't have input over teardowns.

That being said. Each year, the winner of the A Stick Challenge has been in the Barn.

Coincidence? Maybe, but as usual, it is Indy. Bring Gaskets! LOL.

Exclamation Note to Challenge Competitors!! Please Read!!!

First of all let me say THANK YOU to all SUPPORTERS and RACERS that helped make the 4th A/Stick Challenge and the A/SA Challenge a success!

Also, a special thanks to Scott Helms and his support team! They did a lot of behind the scenes marketing that really helped bump up the $$$ for the competitors.

I wish I could have spent more time with everyone, but even though I was not driving, when you have a car at Indy, it is pretty hectic. I did burn a lot of scooter gas just trying to keep up!

What great finals! Caleb McFarland over Kevin Helms in A/Stick!

His Father Brett McFarland was the first A/Stick Challenge winner 4 years ago!

David Barton over Doug Duell! A/SA!

This Challenge started out as a grass roots program to recognize my favorite classes and has caught the attention of many companies that see the opportunity performance based class racing offers to them. They were looking for some high profile, go for the throat Heads up Racing and they go it!

Jason McCormack's tribute to his mother with the first qualifier being a side by side with his sister idling down track in there racecars!

David Barton laying it down in A/SA and going on to win A/SA! 1.32 under the index, #1 Qualifier at Indy and the controversy with tagging all 6.1s with power through AHFS!

I thought it was great since it set the stage for Wide Open racing in A/SA to match the full throttle racing I had come to expect in the A/Stick Challenge over the years

Every competitor in A/SA knew they had to step up if they wanted to win the Challenge!

They did too. There was some carnage!

Mike Iacono hurt the 5.7 in his DP car and could not make first round. Keith Lynch hurt his engine in class eliminations, Ken Mielie damaged his transmission in qualifiying. Of course, we talked about the A/Stick Final where Kevin Helms grenaded his 6.1 as well.

That is INDY! The Big Go! Everyone pushes the equipment and doesn't save it.

Well, every HARD CORE Drag Racer does.

If you don't come to Indy prepared to give it your all, prepare to be disappointed!

In the end, no one could come close to the Carp and Barton machine. It is the Quickest and Fastest of them all!

Doug Duell the runner up!

All Winners and Runner up competitors completed full NHRA teardown inspections as well.

After Teardown about 9 pm on Friday, we presented to the champions and Runner up competitors at Jeff Teuton's Pit area.

The winners received over $4000 each in cash and prizes!

It was fitting that when the smoke cleared, Jeff Teuton himself stood as the overall Stock Eliminator Champion forthe 2011 US Nationals.

This was the 4th year for the A/Stick Challenge and the inaugural A/SA Challenge to support the Class Racers at Indy. I am pleased with the outcome. I think it is a case study for what is possible. Scott Helms and Myself along with some very imporant behind the scences supporters really did well to educate and collect support through the marketing opportunities with Stock Class racers. The racers, the manufacturers and supporting businesses that contributed are appriciated. Anything we can do to give back to them will be done.

Of Course, Ken Miele's web site, www.classracer.com gives us a voice that we would not have otherwise.

Now as a group, we have some homework to follow up on as I had mentioned at the presentation to make sure we give back.

1) Please send me your e mail and any preferred contact info to my e mail address: jimschaechter@earthlink.net

2) I will send you my contact list for the supporters. Please contact them. Thank them and tell them about your racing program.

3) Support the people that support us!

4) Send me any pics and bios of you and your team that I can share. The more that people in the industry know about us as class racers, the more likely they will want to support us with a partnership to market to us.

5) Get the word out to your contacts about the opportunities for 2012! Plan for and get the people interested and involved for the 2012 Challenge!

I would love to have the ability to add another class or two to the mix. Maybe a Killer Small Block Class like D Stick D/SA for example.

This can't happen without your help.

Please review the sponsor and supporter list. Please do your homework. Let me know. If you would like to get involved to help us with the 2012 Challenge races, please e mail me.

Thanks again racers! I will be posting more feedback and pictures as well.

Here is a picture of the McFarland Crew in Teardown. Caleb is enjoying his second annual teardown at Indy! Here is a shot of him doing his best "Refridgerator Repairman" pose while wrenching! LOL. This kid isn't some non wrenching " I only drive the car racer" He gets his hands dirty. To the people that think class racing is dead, just refer to the McFarland racers! At 18 years old, he is bound to be winning for a long time.

Prior to the race! Sportsman racing means we can race like heck on the track and be friends off the track! That is what Sportsman racing racing is all about!

WFO Racing Indeed! Courtesy of Barton Power!

2011
4th annual A/Stick Challenge
Inaugural A/SA Challenge

Ok Racers, here it is! Indy 2011!
The A/SA Challenge was added to the A/Stick Challenge mainly due to Scott Helms and Jeff Teuton. They wanted to add some $$ to the A/Stick Challenge’s 4th year at Indy and asked if we could do A/SA. Why not? The A/SA class is likely to be the most exciting automatic class to be contested this year at Indy. I know for sure there are several teams with a take no prisoners foot to the floor strategy, so if you brought your stuff to Indy thinking you could *****foot your stuff to 1000ft and protect your AHFS, think again! LOL!!!

In order to make it worth your while, racers and businesses have kicked in a significant amount of $$$ and gifts to sweeten the pot!
