My dad claims their was a 67 Camaro that run @ Raven Rock in the late 60's with a 283 in stock. Did they make suck a car?

Yep----195 HP/283 CI available with PG auto or 3 spd manual transmissions

I might add that this was an EXPORT Camaro engine option only--- about 120 ++ total units were built with this engine also it was RPO L32 --

actually they made---
72 manual trans ( 4 speed not 3 speed) 121 powerglide trans total of 193 vehicles equipped with the 195/283 engine-- block codes were MD/manual trans--MJ pg trans some were coupes and some were convertibles--no smog equipment on them ---they also "supposedly " had a California emissions 195/283 engine ,block code is MP same as the 302 Z28 engine because Chevy used the same 283 block for the 302 engines |

NO !! The 302 was a 327 block with a 283 crank.

Back then a 4-inch bore in a 283 was a "301". Very popular when those blocks were plentiful!
Wasn't the 302 in the Z/28 a 4 bolt main block? Lew
