Just a guess here, but the new bigger cam had a smaller base circle/root diameter and it moved the lifter pivot point and the valve end lost it's rolling couple. It started sliding across the valve instead of making a roll across as it lifted. I would venture to guess your rockers on the bigger lift lobe had the most wear.. In the past I did a lot of the 2300 Ford ohc 4 cylinders and if you didn't get the rocker set up right it would do bad things to the valve gear as well as not run very well. Put that other head together with the older/smaller cams. Sorry I missed your call this afternoon. I'll try to get you in the morning.
