Wink Re: What's wrong with this picture?

I have owned my SuperStock 68 Camaro since 1979, In no way would I even think about selling it. On the other hand I have owned my CrateMotor 91 Firebird for 6 years and I have not put it up for sale, but I would sell it and not miss it one bit. I guess to make a long story short in the General Motors Line I would rather see the 67-69 Camaro in SuperStock & Stock than any other line.

Bill, I'm surprised there isn't more, great car, most restored automobile and great engine motor and transmission combinations(we're still discovering new ones) but you knew this, you just wanted to shake the cage a little.lol What I find weird is the 4speed green Firebirds in NHRA racing, too many of them! lol Claude

That's all true.. but, there are LOTS of great cars; Buick Grand Nationals, 340/360 Duster/Demon/Dart Sports; various Ford Mustangs; early ('68-73) Dart 340's/360s; GTO's of every description... and, 4-4-2's...

But, except for the Camaros, individual marques (Buick, Dodge, et al) don't EVER make up nearly a quarter of the Eliminator. If they did, I guarantee you, there would be the same sort of crying that goes on relative to this absurd low-ball horsepower debacle that NHRA has foisted on Stock Eliminator, with the help of the manufacturers.

But, it's okay if it's a Chevy...

I, personally, have no problem with it except for two reasons:

1. As a horsepower (factored HP, that is) driven Eliminator, you have to ask yourself, WHY do so many racers choose this particular brand of car unless they surmise that it has a better-than-average chance of winning (soft factor?)

2. One of the appeals of Stock Eliminator has been the variety of rolling stock that appeared on the starting line. I can remember when supercharged Studebaker Avantis, fuel injected Pontiac Bonnevilles (1958), Stage III wedge Mopar wagons, and turbocharged Corvair Spyders populated Stock Eliminator, and it was an eye-popping show!

Dunno about you, but I get a little weary of seeing seemingly endless pairs of Generation I Camaros race each other. That happens a lot when they make up (as they did at Reading,) virtually a fourth of the field.

I don't know what the answer is, but it would be nice to see the kind of variety that used to exist, return to Stock Eliminator. Probably not going to happen, given NHRA's incredible apathy and inertia, but I don't see this kind of domination by a single marque, as a healthy thing.

Just my 2-cents...

I do not think that the amount of 67-69 Camaros in stock eliminator is a very important fact. The driver makes the difference in a mostly bracket race. As for boredom with these cars, the pictures from Maple Grove do not show a lot of people in the stands.

Bill, it would be fun to see all those brands compete, maybe we could have an all run event for stock and super stock. Tony, if there is no advertisement, no one will even know you have a race on.

Hey Bill, if seeing so many camaros race each other bothers you so much, why don"t you just take up something else as a hobby, i don't believe you even have a stocker, do you??
