2 different types of fuel injection. the 3.1 uses a simple pintle type injector, the engine he's working with uses an injector plus a poppet nozzle in the end of the feed hose. Though it is possible for either of these to malfunction. The poppet type injector is a bit harder to diag. since you're dealing with 2 possible issues, a pressure drop test is typically used by comparing the amount of drop you can identify a "problem" injector be it the injector or the poppet unless cleaning fixes the issue replacement of the injector, poppet included is required. We are now in full on winter and it hasn't skipped a beat since it turned cold even at operating temp. I am thinking that with the cold ambient temp (winter) it is calling for more fuel and delivers the higher rate just fine. It always seemed to show up when fully warmed up and at dead idle with very small fuel requirement. If you turned on the air it would smooth out because of the higher fuel demand to run the air or if you would break the throttle just off idle it would run fine. Frustrating!!
