Bubski I currently do run a small block but for different reasons. I made the change to the small block before the new cars came because it is less expensive, less maintenance, and fits my driving style better. Though I did win a race with the big block back 5 years ago I would not go back to A-AA or AAA unless I had one of the new cars. I have always been more interested in winning than going fast and pick classes that I can be competitive in. You are right that my 402 would not be comp with the new cars
Lee, no problem brother it was a great race, hope we can dance in a final again in 2012, lol.

4 years in stock IHRA L/SA 283 GM(and not a crate motor) ,between me and my son we have had 0 heads-up.
Been lucky and sometimes changed to a diff class as we could move up or down classes with weight ajustments. NOW in superstock this year alone my son has had at least 5 and lost all 5 in 1st round. Had a certain driver wait to see what class we got in and then he would turn his tech card in after ours... Then play the ladder (and so would we).....Told us he needed to make rounds and i guess we helped him.....That is one reason why you will not see the superstocker next year (at least not in superstock).,the ole saying you have to PAY to PLAY is very true,we just got tired of paying and not playing. My son will take this car and move back into his comfort zone in racing ,which is pro tree heads up throttle-stop racing( 2 IHRA world championships and numorous div titles) and big $$$ bracket racing. And i know for a fact he will be turning on a lot more W's..........We tried ,we liked ,we could not afford it..How's that for honesty ? I still love class racing and always will.......

It's not the heat it's the money. How many more on here is willing to admit it is a money thing???.
Didn't used to be this way. You used to could do things a whole lot cheaper than you can now. I would say i have worked on my combo as hard as anyone else in my financial position and have had a lot of accomplishments and good times from where i started and also very proud of that fact that i have made my combo a second under without all the head and intake magic. My stuff probably would not go through the N barn as it is to close to stock and would look weird to them and would be questioned.I still would not trade these last 4 years in stock as the memories i had and the time my son and i have spent together on this combo and car from the beginning when it was a junkyard hull...I'm still in the kitchen and it ain't hot cause i'm making a salad to go with my steak........lol

DW,
I'm with ya. I got tired of spending money too. THats why I quit and went .90 racing. I will tell ya one thing. I may put together a cheap car for my kids but it will be with the understanding we will probably lose any heads up runs because all I'm shooting for is INDEX. We will shoe polish (BRACKET) race all others. Chip |

I haven't tried to play the ladder game. Don't even know how. I don't get enough seat time, so I have to make the best of the couple time trials.

what is bs about it? we too are on a budget and will be toast if we have a heads up with the newer cars. The point Danny and Chip make is the fun factor and being around people that are like minded and enjoying the comraderie. I also enjoy the family atmosphere. You dont have to be fast to win if you are not in a heads up situation.I can back that statement up . when the fun disappears so do we.
