Hey guys, I have been debating this inside my head for the past 2 years or so, and I need some expert advice!
Which would be a better Stick-Shift Stocker, a C4 Corvette or a C5 Z06? I like the C4, and it seems as though it would be fairly straight forward to build, but I like the C5 more (quicker, better looking, etc.). However, making the transaxle in the Z06 work has me concerned, as in, should I go with a solid axle or keep the IRS, is there a manual tranny that will work back there, etc. Also, with the factory rating on the Z06 motor already at 405, is there much more that can be rung out of it compared to the LT4 in the C4? Any input is greatly appreciated!! |

Be careful on Z06 as it has 4 things that in production that are listed as no nos even though it has been in guide for at least 2 year! *** rods and intake valves, CNC ported heads, and dry sump! The wizards at NHRA did not even know about the CNC heads till about a year ago!

I would hope that the CNC heads bring the NHRA factor down like it did for the4.6 Fords! Knock about 50 hp off! LOL.

I do think that if you are serious about this, you should talk to Jimmy Parker. He has built a number of successful Corvette Stockers. He is probably the one to ask.
If you have ever seen Charlie Ingram's LT4 Vette, it would get you thinking. IRS is not smart for a stickshift in any high HP situation for stock class racing. You might be able to find an Stock eliminator automatic Vette for sale and turn in into something fun by putting a stickshift in it. The newer models are certainly easier to set up for a stick than the older models. If you are going to do this....... Bring Money. Lots of it! Good Luck.

It sure was ALL Z06 have had same engine internals since day one, know that for a fact. Only Change was early had cast pistons later have forged.

Cool. Thanks. I am thinking I was off on the defactoring. Probably need to lower the NHRA HP by least 80 hp off for the CNC porting.
