just talked to Tony Zizzo-- told me that Schumacher just spent $20M per trailer to have them SHORTENED 3 feet so that he would not get into overlength trouble!!!! A racer going to the Winters got stopped by Ca. Hwy patrol cost him $30M to have the trailer flatbedded outa state cuz it was too long----yes they are looking at ALL motorhomes towing trailers for over length violations and Toterhomes for overweight and air brake endorsements and license violations--- So be warned they are coming after us

Had wondered about this for years, why Texas (among other states) had not actively enforced this rule .. its been in place for a long time.

To add to this conversation if you have your truck,rv,trailer etc registered in the following states Alaska,Colo,Idaho,Minn,Miss,Montana,Nevada,ND,SD,O K,Wash or Wyoming your states length laws exceed Texas 65'. Texas is a reciprocity state so that means you are covered under YOUR states laws. Ed

My info from Rules Of The Road book shows the length limit in Minn to be 60 ft and Oklahoma to be 65 ft. It is a couple of years old so the laws may have been updated. It also shows Louisiana as 70 ft. I do have a friend who lives in Minn and his rig was close to 80 ft and he has received several over length tickets with one costing well over $1000. The same patrolman wrote him up two weekends in a row and the cost of the ticket went up the second weekend. He now has a shorter rig. It would be nice if the Feds would give a standard length across the country. I have been told it is a standard 75 ft as long as you are on an Interstate highway but I can not find that in writing. All this just makes getting to the races more stressful day by day. My 2 Cents Rick Cates |
