I'm looking to purchase an older motorhome (2000-2003). I'm a Chevy guy but was wondering how the V-10 Ford pulls. Looking for a class A 31-38feet and tow 24 foot trailer (6500-7000lbs loaded). Anything I should stay away from? Any help would be appreciated. Thanks, Pete

I purchased a 98 model very cheap with a 460 ford and it pulls my 24' trailer loaded very well and not bad on gas mileage. I've heard that the V-10 is powerful but bad on gas. When I was looking for one my research was that the Chevy drivetrain was the best, Ford not bad either but stay away from anything with the Dodge drivetrain. We updated ours on the interior but I think we need more room so I'll be looking for something with some slideouts soon. I'll sell you m

While I have no experience with the Fords, I do own a 28 ' class A with an 8.1L vortec and an allison trans with which I pull a 30', 7000# trailer.
I am satisified with both the power and the mileage (8-10) both of which are better than my old dually. I also use one of Jok Nicholson's trailer toads to keep the weight off of the back of the motorhome.and it tows great.

I have a 98 Ford, 30 ft, Coachman with the V-10.. it works very well pulling my 32 ft tri axle, pretty well loaded.. HOWEVER, I did have a hitch constructed and installed by DiBartolomeo to compensate for the over hang and also purchased a Trailer Toad, which made a world of difference.. I can roll at 70 mph with no problems.. gas mileage is another question, around 7 mpg, but there is more to life than gas mileage or we wouldn't be doing what we do..

I just bought a 28QB Coachman with a V10 and it tows pretty good. I had Performance Trailer in NJ build a heavy duty hitch. Since it is on an F550 chassis I do not use a toad but the trailer is a 28ft Alum trailer. It has a short distance from axle to hitch. Not sure of the weight. I really wish someone would make a 28-32 ft A with a Duramax and an Allison 6sp..... why not? The Duramax Super C is real nice but $$$$

I towed 50,000 miles with my 32 ft winnebago adventurer v10, 26' trailer, the hitch on the coach had been reinforced and it was never a problem. I think the V10 is a great dependable motor, it revs more , but i liked it. After I had the coach for 2-3 years I bought and installed a complete Banks kit. The main reason was so that the coach wouldn't downshift as much. I was very pleased with the kit, both quality and performance wise. The coach i had previoulsly was a 460 motor which was also good. The weakest link in the ford is the trans, keep an eye on it. You can probably find a low mileage non slide coach for very reasonable money.
