Tim,
When Coke and Co came in, there was a clause in the contract that no other Soda, Energy Drink, or whatever were allowed to be displayed. That was supposed to have only been a year or so and I recall racers losing big and little sponsorships. Pepsi was one I recall who had planned to have a "superteam" back then. Apparently that clause has been ammended. Tony |

This is covered in detail in the yearly rulebook. Not that it would matter, we don't get rulebooks anymore. There must be more to the story though. There have been several energy drink companies that have provided sponsorship to some level on several Pro and Sportsman teams. Anyone in the know about Thurston's situation?

I`m sure the Coca Cola company loves it when the "NHRA Enhanced Tour" goes to tracks that have Pepsi or other soft drinks on the top of the scoreboards!

The rule is pretty cut and dry on page 61.
Unless its a primary full year sponser that is part of the grandfather clause you can't have anyone else's name on anything. Should have made been discussed with the sponsor when establishing a contract.

I know a local guy who still takes his small sponsorship even though he hasn't raced in 2 years. The Sponsor is a large company that really supports Drag Racing so they don't keep close tabs on who they are helping and isn't aware of the situation. I hope Karma pays this guy a visit.

That's a cryin' shame. Talk about Full Throttle leaving a "bad taste" with racer, his family, friends and others! It actually discourages growth of the sport.

My understanding of Vegas Fuel and NHRA, was that Max was grandfathered in. Letting him run his companies name on his car. He was sponsored by them in the Poweraide era.
