It is much cheaper to buy a car already done than building one. I got back into this with 1500 Silverado ext cab for tow vehicle (6K), open trailer(1200) and car (5K-hard to drive but runs .7-1.1 under -FOR SALE).Another 1k for support equipment(fuel jugs, jack,tool boxes,tie down,etc) and some new(uses) slicks.

As others have said, the legacy/fixed costs are the money eater-gas/hotels/entryfees for the points meets and natioanl events. But I like it!
