Most run a 4 speed, for weight, size, drag, reliability, and simplicity.
In Stock, the transmission is supposed to be "clutch assist", meaning it requires use of the clutch to shift. Most common is the Jerico. You'll find that most 5 speeds that would be useful and useable will be illegal. Most, if not all of the engine programs are designed around 4 speeds, taking full true advantage of a 5 speed could require a different cam, headers, and rear gear, at least.

only older 4 speed i had any luck with was in a friends car was a dodge a833 with the slick shift" guts or whatever they used to be called. was hard shifting but that thing lasted a long time!!
anyhow, what are just some general ideas for the rear gears you guys are using in this type of combo with a 4 speed.

Nash 5 speed 5.87 gear. If you run an older carbed combo in GT you'r supposed to run a 3 or 4 speed ---Trevor
