A few years back there was a lot of HOT FUEL being used in several eliminators. Stock being one. There came the specified fuels and fuel check.

VP this season has gotten C-9 approved.
97 octane UNLEADED fuel without any additives (no ethanol).
About $9.00 per gallon.
Passes fuel check.

I often wondered why they kept giving me cups to piss in after all my runs.

That's supposed to be for fuel?

I don't see pump gasoline ever being legal, and the reason is pump gas doesn't have universal standards to measure against. For one thing, there are at least 3 different grades of every brand of pump gas. There are ethanol blends and non-ethanol blends. There are different blends for summer and winter. Certain geographical areas have specialized fuel blends. There would be no way to police pump gas.
There is no reason to be paying outrageous prices for race gas. There is more than one brand of race gas, and prices vary dramatically. But performance does not. Check Renegade, it's NHRA/IHRA legal.

Greg Anderson was in front of us in the fuel check line with purple he said was two years old and it was fine. After a few phone calls it seems that quite a few folks have had trouble with purple this year. One of my sources told me he felt like Sunoco was having quality control problems with purple. I also bought a drum of blue to try and have been told there were very few problems with the blue. Talking to the guy at Sunoco he told me that the blue was more stable and faster burning than purple. I am going to Columbus with the blue in my car and hope there are no issues.
I purchased 15 gallons of Sonoco Super Stock "blue" in sealed 5 gallon pales for our local distributor for the Sonoma points and national races. First time through fuel check at the national I was told that the fuel was "on the low side and might fail " . So to be safe I went back to the trailer and grabbed a fresh unopened can and returned to fuel check where I opened it in front of the inspectors, This sample produced the same results.
At this point I choose to purchase 5 gallons of C-12 and save the blue for a test session.
The Sonoco fuel passed with no issue the week prior at the divisional event . A week later after being properly stored it's junk? Not to mention the brand new can? I don't think so.

My fuel experience from 1988 to present has been a roller coaster of unbelievable events. in no particular order

I have had Sunoco or VP in my stock fuel tank which sat for 10 months, it passed.
I have had Sunoco or VP in my fuel cell for over 8 months, it passed.
Purchased VP from trailer, 1 month later, flunked.
Purchased fuel from in ground tanks at Gainesville and Bradenton, flunked
Got fuel from Immokalee above ground tank, passed IHRA, flunked NHRA the following week.
VP out of drum from trailer, passed, next week flunked
VP or Sunoco in fuel jug for 3 months, passed
VP or Sunoco in fuel jug for 1 month, flunked

Have tried Sunoco purple, green, VP sportsman, VP C-11, C-12, all with above mixed results.
FUEL CHECK SUCKS
What a joke to spend money needlessly

I put up with it, why, I don't know

I keep seeing VP and sunoco fuels failing, why? I've run Rockett fuel forever, it's reasonably priced and so far has never failed fuel check IHRA or NHRA. If I was having problems failing fuel check the first thing I would do is change brands of fuel. Joe

Just maybe - the fuel check test should work 100% of the time

After all - they are accusing you of cheating when you do not pass

How many have had good fuel fail when you know it is good fuel

Its time to fix the test - so good fuel does not fail

Hey NHRA - FIX THE TEST

We can not afford a test which is not accurate
