EXAMPLE:

Your Vin doesn't look right and it can only tell you if it was a V8 or L6 car.

A 11427 is a V8 2 door sedan.

Hi Jonny, If you're trying to figure out if it's a real SS, I don't think that you can. I think that the best you can do is find enough of the right option #s in the car to assume that it's an SS. Got a build sheet?

In some cases Cowl tags have no bearing on the way the car was originally built---stamped as 4/6 cylinder and built with a V8 or vice versa--it usually is more concerned with trim/color/interior and production plant sequence other pertinant info etc---yes I know it says V8 but is it really a V8---also since 40 years has elapsed many bootleg recreations have appeared---case in point 66-67 Chevelles with 396 engines---there are probably more 396 cars running around now than GMever built---look for thr build sheet as well as warranty books previous owners etc.

Johnny... If you are trying to figure out if it is a real SS car, go to the rear and see if it has a factory exhaust hanger on the drivers side. All SS cars came with factory dual exhaust and should have factory hangers or mounts spot welded in place. Another factor is any 4 barrel car has 3/8ths fuel line and all SS cars have it. The same follows for Chevelle's and Camaro's.

2V 350 cars also had 3/8 line. You could also get a base car with dual exhaust.
