Jeff, the range seems to be unlimited as long as you have cell coverage. They say battery life is 30 days but if you take it away from it's area it sends you a message every 10 minutes and that cuts the battery life down to about a week. It will send you a message that the battery is low. My dog goes with me a lot so I get constant messages about where he is. It even sends you address and a map to it's location. Check it out, tagg.com
